Summary
Prepares/fills, compounds of sterile and non-sterile medications including anti‑neoplastic agents, in accordance with accepted standards and established pharmacy policies and procedures.
Essential Responsibilities and Duties
- Reviews, evaluates, processes medication orders for demographic data (e.g., gender, age, and weight), appropriateness of therapy, dose, frequency, route, dosage form, interactions, allergies, related laboratory values, and possible drug interactions as applicable.
- Restocks, operates, and troubleshoot pharmacy robotic equipment as applicable according to different pharmacy areas.
- Performs professional work in the preparation, filling, compounding, and double checking of sterile and non‑sterile medications as applicable to the area of practice.
- Maintains control and security of all medications including controlled, narcotic substances and supplies. Maintains dispensing and record keeping as per laws and regulations.
- Pre‑packages tablets, capsules, and oral liquid medications utilizing available repackaging machines/robotic equipment. Maintains complete required records and appropriate labeling procedures.
- Checks, and monitors medication related activities/performance of new pharmacist III or pharmacy assistant, residents, trainees/students with guidance and support from a senior pharmacist as needed.
- Orders/Maintains proper and sufficient inventory of drugs and supplies with regular monitoring of medication expiration dates. Prepare expired medications for disposal and completes electronic disposal requests in a timely manner.
- Maintains a clean working environment including hoods and countertops.
- Distributes medications to nursing units when required.
- Performs nursing unit/clinic inspection, and outdated pharmacy stocks/supplies on a monthly basis as per assignment. Maintains and signs approved forms and records accordingly.
- Participates/assists in conducting performance/quality improvement projects.
- Follows all Hospital’s related Policies and Procedures.
- Participates in self and others' education, training and development, as applicable.
Education
Pharm.D. / Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy is required.
