Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear Engineer
Overview
We are seeking a Medium Voltage (MV) Switchgear Engineer to join the Technical Services Division, responsible for providing and managing highly technical engineering services to support Saudi Aramco's electrical power generation, transmission, and distribution networks.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as a subject matter expert in equipment failures and repair techniques during root cause investigations; perform root cause analysis on all critical equipment failures.
- Continuously review HV equipment maintenance programs to identify improvements that ensure safe and reliable operation.
- Provide technical consultation to the maintenance agency regarding critical spare parts lists for existing equipment.
- Assess the condition of aging switchgears and breakers.
- Offer technical expertise on troubleshooting failures, repairs, and evaluating whether equipment is designed to meet intended or existing service conditions.
- Provide engineering input on repair details and offer on‑site support, especially for critical equipment in process plants.
- Contribute engineering input for switchgear work packages to ensure compliance with Saudi Aramco standards and material specifications.
- Represent the organization in industry and professional organizations, users' groups, and entities that govern electrical codes and standards.
- Review and update company standards; maintain familiarity with international standards and possess strong technical training, communication, and customer service skills.
- Direct daily work activities with limited supervision and work cooperatively in a team environment.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university; an advanced degree is a plus.
- Professional Engineer certification (e.g., chartership or PE) preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of operations and maintenance experience with MV switchgear/control gear.
- In‑depth knowledge, experience, and recognition as a switchgear specialist, including membership in international engineering bodies and conference presentations.
- Working knowledge of ANSI and IEC designed switchgear, breaker design (vacuum, air, compressed air, SF‑6), motor control gears, motor contactors, and pad‑mounted SF‑6 equipment.
- Ability to multi‑task and manage changing priorities while proactively improving results, processes, safety, and profitability.
- Rapid assimilation and application of newly acquired technical information.
