Summary

The Facility Engineer – Paint and Industrial Cleaning & Dirt Fighting is responsible for safeguarding Class A surface quality in the automotive painting process by leading contamination control, clean zone management, and all paint shop‑related industrial cleaning operations. The role requires deep technical knowledge in paint defect prevention, strong leadership, and collaboration across quality, production, and maintenance functions to drive a dirt‑free paint environment.

You Will
  • Develop and implement comprehensive dirt‑fighting and contamination control strategies for the paint shop
  • Oversee airflow, filtration, and pressure balancing in paint booths, clean tunnels, and sealing areas
  • Use light booths, surface analyzers, and MES/QMS systems to detect, analyze, and reduce paint defects
  • Manage body cleaning technologies such as ostrich feather dusters, blow‑off stations, and tack‑off mats
  • Maintain and control cleanroom entry systems including air showers and tacky zones
  • Lead industrial cleaning technicians and manage external janitorial contractors
  • Coordinate cleaning of paint booths, ovens, pre‑treatment tunnels, HVAC systems, and water treatment areas
  • Enforce strict cleaning cycles based on production shifts and equipment usage thresholds
  • Supervise dry and wet cleaning procedures, including de‑sludging activities
  • Operate and monitor booth filtration systems, sludge removal systems, mist separators, and AHUs
  • Ensure performance and hygiene of dehumidification and climate control systems
  • Coordinate with maintenance teams to schedule preventive actions on cleaning‑related assets
  • Maintain compliance with OEM paint quality requirements and Class A surface standards
  • Conduct particle counts, cleanliness audits, and blacklight inspections
  • Lead root cause investigations for dirt‑related defects and implement corrective actions cross‑functionally
  • Enforce EHS standards related to chemical handling, VOC emissions, and paint shop safety
  • Ensure proper use and availability of PPE for all team members
  • Manage safe disposal of hazardous and non‑hazardous cleaning waste in line with regulations and sustainability goals
  • Apply Lean, TPM, and 5S principles to continuously improve cleaning processes
  • Analyze defect trends and environmental data to eliminate recurring contamination sources
  • Track and report KPIs including dirt‑related defect rates, cleaning efficiency, and unplanned downtime
  • Supervise cleaning of ancillary paint shop items such as body holders, skids, dollies, robot covers, and operator clothing
You Bring
  • Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering
  • 5–8 years of experience in an automotive paint shop, with at least 3 years in a cleanliness, contamination control, or quality‑focused supervisory role
  • Deep expertise in contamination control, dirt‑fighting strategies, airflow design, and clean zone management
  • Strong technical knowledge of paint booth systems, pre‑treatment processes, ovens, and supporting infrastructure
  • Proven root cause analysis capability using tools such as 5 Why, Fishbone, and Pareto
  • Hands‑on experience with filtration systems, sludge removal, mist collectors, and HVAC cleanliness
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage contractors, and enforce SOPs in high‑cleanliness environments
  • Strong EHS and environmental compliance knowledge related to VOCs, chemical handling, and hazardous waste
  • Data‑driven mindset with experience using MES/QMS systems, particle counts, and KPI dashboards
  • Practical application of Lean, 5S, and TPM methodologies
  • Experience supporting ISO 14001 and IATF 16949 audit readiness
  • Strong communication, coordination, and technical reporting skills
