Job description
Scope of Responsibilities

The clinical psychologist is a member of the Department of Internal Medicine and shall provide psychological care to inpatients and outpatients with mental or psychological illnesses.

Perform psychological tests and therapy sessions for patients referred from psychiatrist and other physicians (members of the Dept. of Medicine).

Psychologist shall be responsible for providing care to his/her patients (inpatients and outpatients) maintaining a high level of professional performance in accordance with:

  • Professional Standards of Medical Practice
  • Medical Ethics
  • Hospital Medical By-Laws
  • Laws of Ministry of Health in Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and any other applicable regulations according to the department quality plan
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide the full range of psychological diagnostic tests and scales and psychological therapy sessions to inpatients and outpatients.
  • Evaluate new admissions and coordinate with the psychiatrist to establish a diagnosis and management plan Execute the plan approved by the psychiatrist.
  • Document plan of patient management (diagnostic tests and therapy sessions) and maintain appropriate records of all patients (accurate, legible and timely completion of medical records). Maintain update follow up in the progress notes.
  • Seek the advice or help of the psychiatrist, whenever patient needs work under his supervision and instructions of assigned psychiatrist and head of the department.
  • Perform the diagnostic psychological testing or scales.
  • Assists other staff in performing psychological tests, scales needed for their patients.
  • Provide psychological therapy sessions for children, adolescents and adults.
  • Provide psychological education to in and out patients and their families.
  • Contribute to the education of physicians, social worker, nurses and other medical organization personnel in early detection, recognition, management and or referral of psychiatric cases.
  • Participate in teaching and quality improvement programs.
  • Abide by policies and procedures of Department of Internal Medicine as well as hospital By Laws, Rules and Regulations.
  • Carries out any other assignments as directed by the Psychiatrist and Head of Department and within the realm of his knowledge, skills and abilities.
Reporting to

Psychiatrist and Head of Internal Medicine Dept.

Liaises with

All physicians, Nursing staff and ancillary staff providing care to patients and other health care professionals such as social workers, patients and their families.
