JOB PURPOSE
To assist in supervising cargo examination operations with a strong focus on supporting quality assurance, minimizing damage, and contributing to process improvement. The Assistant Supervisor works closely with the Quality Foreman and Service Quality Supervisor to ensure cargo handling activities whether manual or equipment-based are conducted safely, efficiently, and in compliance with established procedures. Through regular inspections and hands‑on support, this role helps maintain service standards, ensures proper documentation of quality checks, and promotes continuous improvement across cargo examination processes.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Assist the Supervisor and Quality Foreman in overseeing cargo stripping, repacking, and lashing operations.
- Conduct regular spot checks during cargo examination activities to ensure compliance with handling procedures.
- Support in verifying proper handling of fragile, hazardous, and oversized cargo.
- Monitor equipment usage (e.g., forklifts, cranes) and report unsafe practices or malfunctions.
- Report deviations from SOPs and support in implementing corrective actions.
- Provide guidance and support to the quality team to maintain service standards.
- Deliver on‑job coaching to labor teams on proper cargo‑handling techniques.
- Participate in daily briefings to reinforce quality and safety priorities.
- Promote awareness of quality culture and customer service best practices.
- Ensure compliance with company policies, customs regulations, and health & safety standards.
- Collaborate with operations teams to elevate and resolve quality‑related issues.
- Contribute to SOP reviews and suggest improvements based on operational feedback.
- Maintain inspection logs and assist in preparing daily/weekly quality reports.
- Support in analyzing damage reports and assist in implementing preventive measures.
- Ensure repacking quality and secure lashing under supervision to minimize cargo damage.
- Coordinate with the Quality Foreman to optimize repacking and reduce excess cargo.
- Escalate exceptional cases and operational challenges to the Supervisor.
- Assist in training yard supervisors and foremen on quality procedures.
- Participate in audits of repacked and stripped containers.
- Support compliance with safety, environmental, and customs requirements.
- Assist in tracking and validating charges related to cargo examination and VAS.
- Ensure proper documentation and billing support for rendered services.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
- Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Logistics, Supply Chain, Quality Management, or related field.
- 3–5 years’ experience in cargo handling operations, quality control, or terminal supervision.
- Strong knowledge of safe cargo handling techniques and equipment operation.
- Familiarity with customs examination processes and port terminal procedures is an advantage.
- Proven background in process improvement and lean management.
- Leadership and decision‑making skills to drive quality initiatives.
- Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
