A global banking institution located in Xico, Mexico is seeking a Vice President for FIG. This role focuses on managing risks associated with the Correspondent Banking portfolio across Latin America. The successful candidate will support risk governance frameworks and ensure compliance with policies and regulatory requirements. An understanding of financial crime compliance and correspondent banking is essential. The position also encourages professional development and a culture of well-being.

Vice President – FIG

ObjIn the FIG management team within LAM, responsible for supporting the Regional Head in end to end risk management and governance of the Correspondent Banking portfolio (including Banks, Money Service Businesses (MSB) and Third Party Payment Processors(TPPP)) in Latin America, and the management of the Affiliate Relationship Management function, team and associated risk and governance in Latin America.

The LAM Lead is responsible for ensuring that the respective portfolios are managed in compliance with policy and risk appetite, and that risk is monitored, managed and appropriately mitigated.

The LAM Lead is responsible for the regional governance framework to manage the risk.

Operational Effectiveness & Control

Regular engagement with the country and Regional Head of CB & Affiliates to provide a formal update and MI to support ongoing risk management of the CB and Affiliate portfolios

Ensure that CB and Affiliate business is conducted in accordance with the Global Line of Business Policy, Affiliate Target Operating Model, FIM, Business Procedures and Global Standards across all LAM sites

Support country teams with appropriate linkages, HELIOS input, control maintenance as required

Ensure that affiliate to affiliate relationships are managed on an arm's length, professional basis, to a least the same standard as a third party client relationship.

Create / develop framework for training, transition and operational expectations for in country management of Affiliate and CB risk

Major Challenges
  • Understanding complex CB & Affiliate relationships and activities.
  • Working across countries in a matrixed environment across GB and Wholesale.
  • Obtaining sufficient and regular MI and interpreting it to take informed decisions about CB and Affiliate risk.
  • Detailed understanding of CB & Affiliate risk and actions required to mitigate risk.
  • Understanding and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements as it pertains to the Affiliate credit requirements.
  • Receiving regular access to negative news, internal due diligence reports and trigger events and acting on them at the right level to mitigate the risk incurred in service provision to CBs and Affiliates.
  • Maintenance of up to date list of Correspondent Bank & Affiliate relationships.
  • Thorough understanding of the CB and Affiliate business, client base and drivers of relationship development and revenue.

This role is created to improve control and oversight of LAM CB & Affiliate relationships in financial crime risks, and address increased regulatory scrutiny.

It provides an opportunity to work across a broad spectrum of processes and departments to effectively manage CB and Affiliate risk.

The role holder will take direction from country, regional, and global management.

She / He / They will be expected to adopt a flexible approach to work and maintain an outstanding level of professionalism and conduct.

Management of Risk

Identification of Operational, Financial Crime and Reputational Risks and the ability to mitigate these risks by creating an action plan.

Maintain HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators.

Observation of Internal Controls

Enhance and / or embed (where appropriate) the right level of controls for CBs / Affiliates

Requirements
  • Comprehensive understanding of HSBC Group structures, processes and objectives.
  • In-depth knowledge of correspondent banking, financial crime compliance and the external regulatory / industry environment, as well as GLCM services and correspondent banking.
  • Knowledge of LAM, ideally financial crime risk typologies in LAM
  • Preference for Spanish language skills
  • Sound understanding of due diligence, risk identification and mitigation.
  • Understands the Global Compliance functio
