Amazon's diverse business requires VAT filings in a number of jurisdictions globally. Amazon is seeking a VAT Compliance Tax Analyst to work in its International Indirect Tax Compliance team based in Mexico City. The Amazon tax team is a fast‑paced, team‑focused, and operates in a dynamic environment. This position will be responsible (as part of a larger team) for the preparation of indirect tax returns and related filings.

You will be expected to own critical VAT compliance activities, support internal and external audits, liaise with colleagues across tax and the wider business and participate in business projects on behalf of indirect tax. You should possess a strong understanding of ERP systems and intermediate to strong technical accounting skills. You will also be expected to identify process improvement opportunities for existing processes and controls and drive positive change across the organization.

Key Job Responsibilities
  • Prepare, analyze, and submit VAT returns and related filings.
  • Support internal and external audit processes, including comprehensive data analysis and documentation management.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to ensure proper tax requirements are implemented in technical solutions.
  • Maintain and reconcile tax accounts through month‑end closing processes.
  • Provide support to business teams related to new business launches.
  • Ensure compliance with regional requirements and maintain proper documentation for tax authorities.
  • Participate in cross‑functional projects focused on automation and process optimization.
  • Support business growth initiatives and integration of new entities into tax compliance processes.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business or related field.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products and applications at an advanced level.
  • Experience working in a large public accounting firm or multi‑national corporate tax department.
  • 2+ years of tax, finance or a related analytical field experience.
  • Speak, write, and read fluently in English, and have the ability to take direction in English.
  • Knowledge of at least one data‑focused technology tool, such as Python, SQL, Alteryx, Amazon QuickSight, or similar.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles, processes, and entries.
  • Experience communicating complex concepts clearly and persuasively to different audiences.
  • Knowledge of international indirect tax planning and strong understanding of or practical experience with tax laws in other countries.
