This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Linux Software Engineer in Americas, APAC, and EMEA.

This role provides an exciting opportunity to work on the forefront of Linux software development, optimizing Ubuntu for next-generation silicon and emerging technologies. You will collaborate with a globally distributed engineering team to enable high-performance computing, AI workloads, IoT devices, and cloud infrastructure. The position involves working across the full Linux stack, contributing to open-source projects, and ensuring seamless integration of software with cutting-edge hardware. This is a chance to influence platform development, drive innovation in open-source ecosystems, and collaborate with both upstream communities and commercial partners. Candidates will engage in both hands‑on engineering and strategic technical problem solving in a fast‑paced, global environment.

Accountabilities
  • Collaborate within a distributed team to optimize Linux and Ubuntu for new silicon architectures (x86, ARM, RISC‑V, PowerPC, s390x).
  • Develop, maintain, and debug software across servers, HPC systems, AI stacks, IoT devices, and other hardware platforms.
  • Contribute to graphics, audio, multimedia, virtualization, containerization, and hardware enablement stacks.
  • Work with upstream open-source projects, Ubuntu/Debian communities, and commercial customers to ensure high‑quality software integration.
  • Maintain package management, dependency resolution, and platform security including secure boot and confidential computing.
  • Participate in code reviews and uphold software quality standards.
  • Travel 2–4 weeks per year for internal events while working primarily remotely.
Requirements
  • Strong proficiency in C, C++, and Python programming.
  • Experience or interest in Linux distribution packaging and open‑source maintenance.
  • Understanding of package management, dependency resolution, and software licensing.
  • Exceptional academic track record or equivalent technical experience.
  • Curiosity, flexibility, and strong collaboration skills in a globally distributed environment.
  • Ability to work with diverse internal and external teams, and communicate effectively.
  • Additional knowledge or experience with:
    • Virtualization and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
    • Hardware enablement, GPUs, SmartNICs, storage, and sensors
    • Graphics, audio, multimedia stacks
    • Networking protocols (TCP/IP, HTTP/REST)
    • IoT and embedded systems, firmware, bootloaders, and operating systems
    • Performance optimization and toolchain maintenance
