Job Description

As a Landscape Architecture Junior Drafting Professional at M. Hudson Design, you will play a vital role in shaping the foundation of our projects, focusing on the pre-design and preliminary design phases. In close collaboration with our Senior Drafting Professional and design team, you will be responsible for developing precise technical drawings and plans that set the stage for each project's success. Your attention to detail and team-oriented mindset will be crucial in ensuring that every project starts with a strong, accurate foundation that aligns with our high standards and vision.

After mastering the Junior Drafting Professional role, there is significant room for growth within the company. You will have the opportunity to be promoted to Senior Drafting Professional, where you will take on the responsibility of managing a drafting team and overseeing larger projects.

Key Responsibilities

• Developing Pre-Design Deliverables : You will be responsible for creating key pre-design documents, including the Survey Base Sheet, Inventory Base Sheet, Proposed Base Sheet, and Inventory Proposed Base Sheet. These deliverables ensure that the design team has all the necessary information to start a new project confidently.
• Drafting Schematic Designs : In collaboration with our design team, you will use AutoCAD, Photoshop, and Illustrator to draft schematic designs. Your attention to detail and design expertise will help visualize the project's direction and bring the concept to life.
• Drafting Preliminary Designs : Working closely with our design team, you will also assist in drafting preliminary designs, ensuring that the designs reflect our client's vision while maintaining functionality, aesthetic appeal, and feasibility.
• Ensuring Accuracy and Compliance : You will ensure that all drawings are accurate and meet local codes and regulations, as directed by the design team. Your ability to maintain these standards will be crucial in ensuring each project is compliant and ready for approval.
• Collaborating and Refining Designs : As part of the landscape architecture team, you will actively collaborate with team members to refine designs. Your input will help evolve the plans, making them both innovative and feasible.
• Updating Drafts : You will be responsible for updating drafts based on feedback and revisions from the design team, ensuring the final designs align with the vision and standards set at the beginning of the project.

Qualifications & Skills

Required

• Proficiency in AutoCAD and Design Software : A strong command of AutoCAD or other relevant drafting software is essential to create precise, high-quality design documents. Familiarity with additional software such as Photoshop and Illustrator is a plus.
• Exceptional Attention to Detail : A keen eye for detail and accuracy is critical in ensuring all drawings and designs are flawless and align with project specifications.
• Understanding of Landscape Architecture Principles : A foundational knowledge of landscape architecture principles, particularly as they apply to residential design, will allow you to contribute effectively to the design process.
• Self-Sufficiency and Deadline Management : You must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines without direct supervision. Strong time management skills are crucial in this fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.

Preferred

• Educational Background in Landscape Architecture : A degree in Landscape Architecture, whether undergraduate or graduate, will provide you with the academic foundation to excel in the field.
• Experience in Residential Landscape Architecture : Hands‑on experience in residential landscape architecture, particularly in high‑end or luxury projects, will enable you to adapt quickly to the nature and scale of our work.
• Familiarity with Florida Planting Materials : Knowledge of Florida's native plants, climate conditions, and planting requirements is highly beneficial for creating sustainable, regionally appropriate designs.

Experience Requirements

Communication channels: Google Chat, email. Regular communication will take place through Google Chat and email, keeping you in the loop and facilitating quick, efficient exchanges. Additionally, we hold weekly team meetings via Google Meet, providing a virtual space to discuss project updates, share feedback, and align on goals.

Compensation

Hourly Rate : You will receive an hourly rate between $15-$25 / hr, based on your experience and skill set, ensuring that your compensation reflects the value you bring to the team.

Annual Inflation Adjustment : To account for the rising cost of living, you will receive a minimum 3% annual inflation-based increase in your hourly rate, ensuring your compensation keeps pace with economic changes.

Performance-Based Hourly Increase : In addition to the inflation adjustment, your hourly rate will be reviewed annually, with the potential for further increases based on your performance and contributions to the team.

Annual Performance Bonus : As a Junior Drafting Professional, you will be eligible for an annual performance bonus, tied to both your individual achievements and the success of the team.
