We have an immediate need for an experienced Datacenter Technician. This position will be based in Rosarito, Baja California, Mexico.
Overview
The Datacenter Technician is responsible for the physical installation, maintenance, and support of all telecommunications equipment within our data center or POP facilities. This role ensures the continuous, efficient, and secure operation of our infrastructure. The ideal candidate is a hands-on professional with a strong understanding of data center best practices and a commitment to operational excellence.
Responsibilities
- Install, cable, and decommission hardware, networking equipment, and related components.
- Perform equipment racking, stacking, powering and cabinet management according to established standards.
- Conduct routine maintenance and physical inspections of data center equipment.
- Diagnose and resolve hardware and cabling issues, including routers, storage, and network-related problems.
- Replace faulty components and perform physical repairs.
- Install, terminate, and test ethernet and fiber optic cabling.
- Maintain meticulous organization and labeling of all cables and infrastructure components.
- Track and manage all data center assets, including equipment, parts, and consumables.
- Maintain accurate inventory records and perform regular audits.
- Respond to and resolve incidents, service requests, and change orders.
- Collaborate with remote support teams and engineers to execute complex tasks.
- Collects and interprets engineering documentation, to include schematics, fiber management systems and performance OTDR reports and also maintains proper documentation on changes and upgrades.
- Adhere to all data center and POPs security protocols and safety procedures.
- Provide both reactive and preventive maintenance for fiber networks.
- Follow company policies related to safety and various company procedures.
- Perform related work as required and/or assigned; attend training programs, seminars, conferences, and meetings; assist degreed engineers and/or other technicians.
- Must be available to work beyond regular hours and respond to callouts as needed.
- Must report job updates and network documentation using company software.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent; technical certification (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+) is a plus.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience in a data center or similar environment.
- Proven experience with networking equipment (e.g., Cisco, Juniper).
- Strong knowledge of data center best practices, including racking, stacking, and cabling standards.
- Proficiency in diagnosing and troubleshooting hardware issues.
- Familiarity with data center monitoring tools is a plus.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 18 kg.
- Proper use of basic hand and power tools.
- Knowledge of utility power systems.
- Knowledge of principles of electrical and electronics is preferred.
- Knowledge of personal computer operation and use.
- Comfortable working in a data center environment, which may include raised floors, elevated temperatures, and loud noise levels.
- Must have excellent written and verbal communication, organization, leadership, and customer service skills, along with strong business ethics.
- Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including on-call shifts, as needed.
- Driver’s license required.
- Bilingual - Fluent in English and Spanish.
