Join Our Team as a Customs Lead at Johnson Electric!

Location: Calera, Zacatecas, Mexico (onsite)
Schedule: Standard business hours (flexibility for audits and compliance reviews)
Travel: Limited

As our next Customs Lead, you’ll ensure compliance with customs regulations and trade requirements, support accurate tariff classification, and implement internal controls to safeguard customs and logistics operations. You will work closely with the Logistics & Compliance Manager to streamline import/export processes and maintain regulatory compliance for all Johnson Electric entities in Mexico.

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Prepare, review, and coordinate documentation for customs adjustments (letters, protests, reconciliations)
  • Review Certificates of Origin and maintain trade compliance databases
  • Participate in internal audits and recommend compliance improvements
  • Provide guidance on valuation and customs regulations, including tariff classification (NICO codes)
  • Supervise customs clearance processes and ensure documentation meets regulations
  • Maintain tariff classification database and support Free Trade Agreement qualification
  • Coordinate with customs brokers and freight forwarders to reduce transit delays
  • Implement compliance controls aligned with IMMEX, PROSEC, and VAT/IEPS programs
  • Verify and reconcile Annex 24 and Annex 30 databases for inventory accuracy
  • Manage fixed asset documentation and update SOPs as needed
  • Resolve incidents with Customs Authorities or SAT and prepare compliance reports
What We’re Looking For:
  • Expertise in customs regulations, trade compliance, and documentation control
  • Experience auditing customs documentation and performing tariff classification
  • Knowledge of Free Trade Agreements, Certificates of Origin, Annex 24 and Annex 30
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with compliance teams
  • Intermediate to advanced English proficiency and Excel skills
  • Leadership experience preferred
Working Conditions:
  • Office-based role with occasional flexibility for audits
  • Minimal physical demands (desk-based work)
