We have an exciting opportunity for an exceptional individual to work supporting one of our clients as Azure Data Engineer (Support & Development)
Key Responsibilities
Technical Development & Engineering
- Design, Develop, and Optimize: Lead the design and development of scalable and high-performance data pipelines and ETL/ELT processes using Azure Data Factory (ADF) and Azure Databricks.
- Data Transformation: Implement complex data transformations and business logic using PySpark within Databricks notebooks, ensuring data quality and integrity.
- Data Warehousing: Utilize Azure Synapse Analytics (SQL Pools, Serverless Pools) for data warehousing, modeling, and large-scale data querying.
- Reporting & Visualization: Develop and maintain Power BI (PBI) reports and dashboards, ensuring accurate and insightful data representation for business users. This includes defining data models and measures within PBI.
- Code Quality & Best Practices: Enforce best practices for coding, testing, deployment (CI/CD), security, and performance tuning across all data solutions.
Technical Support & Operations
- Tier 3/4 Support: Serve as the technical escalation point for complex incidents and problems related to data pipelines, Databricks clusters, Synapse performance, and Power BI report failures.
- Incident Management: Drive root cause analysis (RCA) and permanent resolution for recurring issues, focusing on continuous improvement and preventative measures.
- Monitoring & Alerting: Oversee the setup and maintenance of monitoring and alerting mechanisms for the data platform to proactively identify and address system health issues.
- Onshore/Offshore Model: Establish and manage effective handoff procedures, communication protocols, and shift coverage for a 24/7 or follow-the-sun support model with offshore teams.
Leadership & Communication
- Team Leadership: Mentor and guide junior and mid-level data engineers, both onshore and offshore, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Customer/Stakeholder Communication: Act as the primary technical liaison, clearly communicating complex technical issues, progress, and resolutions to non-technical business stakeholders and customers.
- Drive Support Excellence: Establish and track key service level objectives (SLOs) and service level agreements (SLAs) for support operations, driving the team to meet and exceed targets.
- Project & Task Management: Oversee the allocation of development and support tasks, ensuring timely delivery and effective prioritization of the backlog.
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in Data Engineering, with at least 2 years in a Lead or Senior/Principal role.
- Deep expertise in the Azure Data Platform, including Azure Databricks and Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Expert-level proficiency in Python and PySpark for data processing and ETL development.
- Strong hands-on experience with Power BI development, including DAX, data modeling, and governance.
- Proven ability to manage technical teams and drive support operations in an onshore/offshore delivery model.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a track record of successful client/customer interaction and conflict resolution.
- Solid understanding of cloud security, networking, and governance principles in Azure.
- Experience with version control systems (e.g., Git) and CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Azure DevOps)
