Mission
A Surveyor in a classification society plays a crucial role in ensuring the safety, compliance, and quality of ships and marine assets. The main responsibilities are aimed at verifying that vessels meet international and classification society standards.
Key Accountabilities
- Ensuring Regulatory Compliance: Apply and enforce classification society rules, international maritime conventions, and statutory regulations during all survey activities.
- Providing Technical Expertise: Furnish clients, shipowners, and manufacturers with authoritative technical advice related to ship classification, design, construction, and ongoing maintenance.
- Effective Problem‑Solving: Diagnose and resolve technical challenges encountered throughout the survey process or client engagements.
- Implementing Quality Assurance: Develop and execute quality control protocols that guarantee the accuracy, integrity, and completeness of inspection reports and certifications.
- Client Engagement and Education: Communicate complex classification society procedures and compliance requirements clearly to empower clients.
- Documentation and Reporting: Use standardized reporting templates and digital documentation tools to ensure timely, precise, and transparent survey records.
- Collaborative Teamwork: Foster knowledge exchange and promote a cohesive work culture that supports continuous improvement.

Education
Master’s Degree in Naval Engineering.
Qualifications
- 2/3 years in engineering, surveying, or related technical roles within the marine or a similarly technical industry.
- Strong command of the English language, sufficient to engage effectively in classification processes, statutory certifications, and cross‑functional communications.
- Demonstrable ability to assimilate and apply RINA’s Rules, Guides, statutory regulations, and safety policies to relevant work assignments.
- Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, shipbuilding practices, and operational systems critical to vessels’ classification and assessment.
- Capability to conduct a variety of survey activities, including new building inspections, in‑service hull and machinery assessments, marine management system audits, and testing and certification of service providers and manufacturers.
- Solid understanding of ships’ engineering systems and machinery, alongside practical skills with relevant computer programs and software packages essential for survey tasks and project collaboration.
