Introduction

Serco is a trusted leader in Space Services, with a proud history spanning over 55 years and a track record of supporting more than 50 space missions for world‑renowned agencies like ESA and NASA. Our expertise covers the entire space lifecycle—from satellite testing and launch services to spacecraft operations, space surveillance, and data management—making us a key partner in advancing national strategies and driving innovation in the New Space era.

The Community You Will Join

You will work in an international, diverse team, surrounded by top‑tier scientists, engineers, and technical experts who inspire and challenge you every day. You’ll have ongoing opportunities to grow through specialized training and professional development tailored to the space sector, all while being part of a company that genuinely values work‑life balance, mutual respect, and a shared commitment to excellence. As you contribute to innovative projects and mission‑critical systems, you’ll gain hands‑on exposure to cutting‑edge technologies and collaborate closely with major space agencies, becoming part of something truly extraordinary.

The Difference You Will Make

You will contribute directly to some of Europe’s most exciting space programmes, from Earth observation and climate monitoring to satellite navigation and space safety. Your work will play a vital role in ensuring mission success, enabling better decision‑making on Earth and driving innovation in orbit. Whether you’re helping manage spacecraft operations, analysing mission data, or supporting software and systems development, your expertise will help move Europe’s space ambitions forward.

Your Mission

You will work across a diverse portfolio of ESA Earth Observation application projects, continuously acquiring and translating new knowledge—whether emerging methods, algorithms, tools, platforms, workflows, or datasets—into practical value for specific policy themes, ensuring that project outputs are effectively integrated into end‑user processes and systems. You will connect insights from multiple projects into clear and compelling narratives, shaping storyboards that can be directly used to promote results and demonstrate impact. At events and workshops, you will bring solutions to life by showcasing self‑developed use cases, providing hands‑on guidance, clearly explaining cost‑benefit advantages, and actively promoting methods, tools, and platforms.

You will work closely with potential users, often GIS experts, engaging in detailed discussions to understand their EO product needs, collecting and translating requirements, and acting as the interface with technical teams to ensure these needs are implemented. You will support new users by advising them on tool and method integration, embedding solutions directly into their operational systems, and delivering practical utilisation and functionality exercises. At the same time, you will look ahead by identifying opportunities for the evolution of products, tools, and methods, proposing new functionalities in collaboration with thematic experts. Throughout the project lifecycle, you will actively participate in consortium meetings, track actions and progress, and maintain strong coordination with partners to ensure alignment and successful delivery.

What You Bring to the Mission

You will bring a wealth of experience in integrating data from multiple sources, seamlessly blending complex datasets to uncover meaningful insights and drive impactful solutions. With your strong background in managing both scientific and application‑focused projects, you will lead initiatives from start to finish, coordinating teams and resources to ensure smooth execution and successful delivery. Your ability to communicate clearly and effectively will be key, whether it’s presenting complex concepts to diverse audiences or writing detailed, comprehensive documentation that captures the essence of your work. On the technical side, you will be well‑versed in the world of data science and tools, using Python, R, and SQL to analyse and process data, crafting robust solutions that power decision‑making and innovation. Your combined expertise in these areas will allow you to navigate complex challenges with ease and deliver results that matter.

You will work within a multilingual team of experts, using your fluency in English, along with any additional European languages, to support diverse customers. You will hold a degree in Physics, Remote Sensing, or a related field, with strong expertise in satellite remote sensing (optical and SAR), image analysis, GIS, and programming. You will apply modern EO technologies, including cloud computing, big data, and AI, to process data and develop applications, while also drawing on your teaching or communication experience to share knowledge effectively.

You will be able to manage multiple tasks in parallel, prioritising effectively to meet deadlines and deliver results. You will work collaboratively within a team, bringing a pro‑active approach to identifying and resolving challenges. You will be fluent in English, both written and spoken, while knowledge of additional languages such as Spanish or French will be an asset, helping you communicate across diverse teams and audiences.
