We are seeking an experienced and motivated Principal Technical Safety Engineer to join our Climate Technology Solutions Engineering team and take ownership of technical safety aspects for New Products Development (NPD) Programs, sponsored across the different Growth Areas of Carbon Capture Utilization & Storage, Hydrogen Production, Clean Power Solution, and Emission Abatement, and their subsequent entire product lifecycle.

Focus will be on hazards evaluations from chemical species (Flammability, Toxicity, Emissions/Effluents) and the management of safety guidelines within innovative process technologies (particularly Carbon Capture, Hydrogen, and e-Fuel production).

As part of the CTS Engineering team, the Principal Technical Safety Engineer will work closely with the Technical and Product Safety Team of the Gas Technology Equipment business unit, adopting standardized frameworks, covering proactive safety practices, incident investigation, and lessons learned to enhance safety standards.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Drive the design and development of safety guidelines for innovative technologies, collaborating with Venture Partners, Suppliers, and Customers.
  • Conduct hazard identification, HAZOP, FMEA, and other risk analyses following standards like IEC61882.
  • Apply Quantitative Risk Assessment techniques such as ASR, QRA, FERA, LOPA, FTA, SIL, and protective actions to mitigate risks.
  • Define applicable regulations and environmental limits for plant emissions and effluents.
  • Support permit application preparations and manage safety documentation, including effluents data, MSDS, noise reports, gas dispersion, hazardous areas, fire safety, and environmental impact assessments.
  • Collaborate with project teams to ensure safety compliance throughout project phases.
  • Participate in international committees to influence safety standards and incorporate sustainability considerations into safety assessments.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Chemical, Energy, Mechanical, Environmental, or Industrial Engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience as a Safety or Process Engineer in industrial plant design, operation, or upgrades.
  • Knowledge of relevant standards and directives (e.g., ISO, IEC, EU directives).
  • Experience in risk assessments, HAZOP, and quantitative risk techniques.
  • Strong communication skills and fluency in English.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Experience with hydrogen, CO2 capture, and energy transition technologies.
  • Knowledge of Functional Safety standards (ISO 13849, IEC 61508).
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification.
  • Familiarity with GHG reporting and LCA methodologies.
