Overview

Postdoctoral Researcher - Molecular Cardiology

Monzino Cardiology Center, IRCCS, Milan, Italy

A postdoctoral position is available at the Monzino Cardiology Center in Milan, Italy (ranked 14th best hospital in the world for Cardiology – Newsweek 2026 Ranking).

The selected candidate will join an ambitious translational research project aimed at elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying the cardioprotective effects of two classes of metabolic drugs. The project combines cellular and molecular biology, omics technologies, patient samples and preclinical models to uncover novel therapeutic pathways in cardiovascular disease.

This interdisciplinary study is jointly coordinated by two groups:

  • Unit of Molecular Mechanisms of Cardiovascular Remodeling (Basic research, directed by Dr. Nuno Guimaraes Camboa)
  • Unit of Diabetology, Endocrinology and Metabolic Diseases (Clinical unit, directed by Dr. Stefano Genovese)

Prospective start date: December 2025 – February 2026

The contract is initially of 1 year with possibility of extension.

Salary scale is to be determined based on previous work experience.

The position is based in Milan.

Main Tasks
  • Performing molecular biology experiments, with an emphasis on scRNA-seq.
  • Performing cell culture experiments.
  • Processing samples from patients.
  • Quantitative data analysis.
  • Maintaining an up-to-date and organized lab notebook.
  • Regular presentations of results at internal meetings.
  • Support for grant applications, project reports and paper preparation.
General Requirements
  • PhD in Molecular Biology, Applied Biology, Biochemistry, Medical Biotechnology, or related disciplines, with proven research experience in the field.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken (daily working language in the laboratory and essential for the interview).
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with good communication abilities and an open-minded attitude.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated analytical thinking, creativity, and a solution-oriented mindset.
  • The ideal candidate will be ambitious, motivated, adaptable, and driven by scientific curiosity.
Preferential Qualifications (not mandatory)
  • Previous experience with single-cell RNA-seq techniques.
  • Capacity to work in R for the analysis of NGS-derived datasets.
  • Prior research experience in the cardiovascular field.
  • A publication record supporting eligibility for post-doctoral fellowships or early-career research grants (path to independence).
  • Previous experience in international research environments.
