Overview

We are looking for an Apprentice for Railway Vehicle Maintenance, in Milan within the Customer Services BU area who will be trained in 2 years as Junior Service Engineer.

The selected candidate will join the Customer Service Engineering team for railway maintenance, working alongside and under the supervision of an experienced tutor, who serves as the ECM I Function Manager (Entity in Charge of Maintenance) in accordance with EU Regulation 2019/779. The role offers a structured growth path within a complex and highly regulated industrial environment. Its objective is to develop skills in maintenance process management, performance analysis, and continuous improvement, while ensuring full compliance with regulatory, contractual, and safety requirements.

Responsibilities

As Junior Service Engineer some of your main activities will be:

  • Definition and management of the locomotive maintenance system, structured on the basis of:
  • applicable regulatory requirements
  • ECM (Entity in Charge of Maintenance) requirements
  • existing maintenance contracts
  • Maintenance and updating of system documentation (procedures, work instructions, maintenance plans and records), ensuring consistency, traceability, and compliance with applicable requirements.
  • Monitoring the implementation of the maintenance system, verifying adherence to defined processes and to quality and safety requirements.
  • Analysis of process and maintenance performance through the use of quality, reliability, safety, and operational performance indicators.
  • Collection and analysis of field feedback (operational feedback, reports, operating data) to identify opportunities for process improvement.
  • Identification and management of non-conformities, supporting root cause analysis, and the definition and implementation of corrective and preventive actions (CAPA).
  • Support to continuous improvement activities of the ECM system and maintenance processes, with a structured and data-driven approach.
  • Support in the analysis, assessment, and monitoring of risks associated with maintenance activities.
  • Participation in internal and supplier audits to verify compliance with system and regulatory requirements.
  • Support to the qualification, evaluation, and monitoring of suppliers involved in maintenance activities.
  • Support in managing and updating the competence acquisition and maintenance system for ECM personnel.
  • Interface with key stakeholders, alongside the assigned tutor, including manufacturers and other ECM entities.
  • Preparation of reports, analyses, and technical dossiers to support engineering and management decisions.
  • Management of procedures and documentation supporting customer interfaces.
Required entry qualifications
  • You have less than 30 years of age, in accordance with the Italian apprenticeship contract
  • You are fresh graduate or you have a technical academical background in Engineering (preferably Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering) or a Technical Diploma with experience in quality, maintenance, or industrial safety.
  • Good data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Strong organizational skills to manage multiple requests in a timely and professional manner, with attention to detail and strong time and task management abilities
  • Commitment to quality, safety, and continuous improvement.
  • Problem-solving skills and an analytical mindset.
  • Knowledge of main IT tools (MS Office, databases).
  • Proficiency in English and Italian
  • Team player ability, strong communication & interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work in a changing environment
  • Passion to never-stop growing
  • Respect and appreciation of each person’s uniqueness, willingness to co create and share knowledge
  • Eligibility to work in Italy
  • Nice-to-have: Basic knowledge of maintenance processes and safety regulations
  • Familiarity with quality management systems (ISO 9001) and, preferably, railway regulations (EU Reg. 2019/779 or EU Reg. 2018/762)
  • Knowledge of EN management system certification standards
  • Knowledge of risk analysis and assessment methodologies (FMEA/FTA/HAZOP/RAMS, etc.) and methodologies for CAPA and Process Improvement (RCA/PDCA/Kaizen/8D, etc.)
  • Some experience, even brief, in the railway sector
  • Knowledge of national and European railway regulations
  • Knowledge of the German language
