Overview
Chief Mechanic – Golf Course Maintenance at Tenuta Toscana, located in Tuscany. Tenuta Toscana, a signature property with a championship golf course, seeks a Chief Mechanic to oversee all maintenance and repair of golf course equipment and vehicle fleets. The role ensures that maintenance teams have fully operational, safe, and reliable equipment to deliver superior playing conditions.
We are looking for a hands-on, detail-oriented professional with deep mechanical expertise, leadership capability, and a passion for excellence.
Responsibilities
- Maintain, repair, and service all golf course equipment including mowers, utility vehicles, tractors, small engines, and attachments.
- Develop and manage a preventative maintenance program to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
- Lead and mentor a team of mechanics and technicians; provide training in safety and equipment handling.
- Oversee daily inspections, ensuring all equipment is in top working order before heading out to the course.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized maintenance facility.
- Maintain accurate service records, parts inventory, and tool inventories.
- Diagnose hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical issues efficiently and accurately.
- Work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Foremen to anticipate needs and prioritize repairs.
- Manage the equipment maintenance budget, procurement of parts, and vendor relationships.
- Ensure compliance with all safety protocols, environmental standards, and local regulations.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience as a mechanic or technician in golf course, turf, or heavy equipment maintenance.
- Prior experience in a supervisory or lead mechanic role strongly preferred.
- Expert knowledge of small engine repair, hydraulic systems, electrical diagnostics, welding, and fabrication.
- Familiarity with major turf equipment brands (e.g., Toro, John Deere, Jacobsen, etc.).
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
- Ability to read technical manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
- Proficiency in English required; Italian is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work flexible hours when needed.
- Willingness to relocate to Tuscany.
- Full-time contract in accordance with the Italian Collective Bargaining Agreement (CCNL).
