⭐ Mission

Join our AI Lab as a Backend Engineer and ship user-facing AI agents that transform how 600,000+ businesses manage their finances. You’ll work in small squads, each owning a specific AI agent. The overall team goal is an ambitious one : launch one AI agent every 6 weeks.

You’ll help Qonto lead on AI in-product, working with Sophie and a fullstack team to build agents that directly impact our customers’ daily operations.

👩💻🧑💻 As a Backend Engineer for Qonto’s AI Lab, you will

• Ship an AI agent every 6 weeks, owning the full backend and AI logic from scoping to deployment
• Your squad will continuously develop and own a specific AI agent, managing its full backend and AI logic from scoping to deployment, within the team’s ambitious 6-week release cadence.
• Build reliable AI systems with pragmatic guardrails that ensure agent behavior matches intent in a regulated banking environment
• Create maintainable, future-proof components that enable rapid iteration without constant rewrites
• Collaborate across the full stack, contributing to frontend (React / JS) through pair coding when needed
• Code hands‑on 70% of your time in Python, with minimal meetings and maximum shipping velocity

🤔 What You Can Expect

• Startup mode within scale‑up stability : The AI Lab is building its first agent now. Minimal process, quick dailies, weekly demos with leadership. Disagree and commit. Every hour counts.
• Cutting‑edge AI stack : Daily work in Python, experimentation with PydanticAI, LangGraph, and LangChain. AI coding tools (Cursor, Claude Code) are baseline expectations.
• High autonomy, fast impact : Small squads (4‑8 people) give you real ownership. See your work go live in weeks, not months.
• Team setup : 6 engineers (iOS, Android, Frontend, Backend, AI / ML) plus a designer across Grenoble, Rome, and Paris. Steve (CPO) attends Friday demos.

You’ll collaborate closely with Sophie , our accomplished product lead. With years of experience driving product strategy and delivery in both fast‑growing startups and established tech companies, Sophie has a proven track record of turning vision into reality. She’s led cross‑functional teams through the entire product lifecycle, from discovery to launch, always with a laser focus on solving real customer problems.

🏅 About You

• Python expertise (but agnostic approach) : Strong production experience in Python, and continuous learning / improvement mindset. Bonus for Go knowledge to interact with Qonto’s core services.
• Startup mindset : Fast learner, confident shipper who thrives under aggressive timelines. Scale‑up or regulated industry experience (banking, fintech) is a plus.
• AI curiosity : You already use AI coding tools daily (Cursor, Claude Code, GitHub Copilot). Production AI experience not required.
• Pragmatic approach : Balance shipping fast with building reliable systems. Experimental mindset with AI guardrails.
• Strong communicator : You explain technical topics clearly to non‑experts, diffuse knowledge across teams and align people to work successfully on their projects.
• Language : You are fluent in English
