A global agricultural advocacy group is seeking an Advocacy, Policy, and Partnerships Senior Officer in Rome. Organizational context

The World Farmers Organisation (WFO) is a member‑based organization, representing a community of geographically balanced entrepreneurial farmers, regardless of their size (small, medium and large‑scale), gender, and age, that aims to see their rights as food producers and role as economic actors, globally recognized.

The mandate of the WFO is to advocate on behalf of the world farmers in global political processes related to agriculture.

The mission of WFO is to advocate on behalf of the Farmers in the main global political processes that have an impact on the agricultural sector. WFO fosters the economic viability of farming activities, aimed at improving the livelihood conditions of farmers, their families and the rural communities they work and live in and strengthening the contribution of the farming community in tackling the challenges mankind faces.

WFO is engaged in a wide range of political fora, within the United Nations and outside, including the international financial institutions.

WFO fosters partnerships with private and public stakeholders as a fundamental precondition to reinforce farmers’ role in the policy dialogue at all levels.

Technical focus

This position is a core position in the International Secretariat of the WFO, in Rome.

The APP Senior Officer shall have a solid overview of the global policy processes on agriculture, with particular focus on the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs and the overall agenda on Climate, Biodiversity and Trade. A deep knowledge of the United Nations is required.

Comprehensive policy and advocacy expertise to support the planning, development, implementation and reporting of programmes, products and services in accordance with WFO objectives.

Key functions
  • Coordinate the development of WFO policies and positions in collaboration with the technical working groups;
  • Find consensus among WFO members on positions related to the assigned policy areas;
  • Liaise with WFO Communications Unit to coordinate the publication of communications materials related to the WFO advocacy initiative, including providing relevant and timely information to feed into the communications activities;
  • Draft technical analysis, assessment, monitoring and / or reporting documents, and related methodologies, to support the planning, implementation / delivery and monitoring of programmes of work, projects, products and / or services;
  • Provide technical support to the advocacy, policy and partnerships initiatives;
  • Establish contact with potential partners and maintain those that are ongoing;
  • Follow the political conversations at global level on agriculture and promptly advice the APP Lead on opportunities for the WFO;
  • Coordinate WFO working groups in the above-mentioned areas in closed cooperation with the respective Facilitators;

Perform other duties as required.

Reporting lines

The Advocacy, Policy, and Partnerships (APP) Senior Officer reports to the APP Practice Lead.

Minimum requirements

Advanced University degree in Political Sciences, International Relations, Agricultural Economics, Food Law, and related fields.

3 to 5 years of relevant experience, focus on Agriculture is desirable.

Working knowledge of English and another language between French and Spanish is required. Working knowledge of the three languages would be an added value.

Salary

Gross salary range: €30,000 – €38,000+ based on experience.
