Position Summary
The Production and Operation Senior Manager is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the end‑to‑end manufacturing process of our sleep products. This individual will direct all aspects of our production facility, including safety, quality, efficiency, on‑time delivery, and cost management. The ideal candidate is a hands‑on, data‑driven leader with a deep understanding of mattress manufacturing (including innerspring, memory foam, and hybrid technologies) and soft goods production for bedding. They will be responsible for driving continuous improvement, optimizing workflows, and leading a high‑performing team to achieve operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
1. Production & Manufacturing Management:
- Oversee the daily operations of the mattress and bedding production lines, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
- Develop and execute production schedules to meet sales forecasts and customer delivery commitments.
- Manage raw material inventory, including foam, springs, fibres, textiles, and adhesives, to ensure uninterrupted production while minimizing carrying costs.
- Optimize machine utilization, line speeds, and labour allocation to maximize throughput and efficiency (OEE).
- Implement and enforce strict quality control standards at every stage of the manufacturing process, from raw material inspection to finished goods.
2. Operational Excellence & Continuous Improvement:
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement (Kaizen, Lean Manufacturing, 5S) across the operation.
- Identify and eliminate waste in processes, materials, and time to reduce costs and improve productivity.
- Utilize Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to monitor performance, analyse trends, and drive data‑based decision‑making. Key metrics include OEE, Labour Efficiency, First Pass Yield, Scrap Rate, and On‑Time Delivery.
- Lead and manage capital projects, including new equipment procurement, installation, and process upgrades.
3. Quality, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all products meet or exceed company quality standards and industry certifications (e.g., CertiPUR‑US®, OEKO‑TEX®).
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action processes for quality defects and customer complaints.
- Foster a "safety‑first" culture, ensuring full compliance with all OSHA and company safety regulations.
- Conduct regular safety audits and training to maintain a safe and clean working environment (5S).
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production supervisors, team leads, and production associates.
- Manage staffing, performance reviews, training, and career development plans for direct reports.
- Foster a collaborative, accountable, and high‑performance work environment.
- Resolve personnel issues effectively and maintain strong employee relations.
5. Financial & Supply Chain Management:
- Develop and manage the annual operating budget for the production department.
- Work closely with the procurement and supply chain teams to manage supplier performance and raw material quality.
- Identify and implement cost‑saving initiatives without compromising product quality or safety.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a manufacturing environment, with at least 3 years in a senior leadership/management role.
- Proven, hands‑on experience in mattress manufacturing and/or textiles/soft goods production.
- Demonstrated expertise in Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, and other continuous improvement methodologies.
- Strong financial acumen with experience in P&L management, budgeting, and cost control.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and influence at all levels.
Preferred:
- MBA or Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt certification.
- Deep technical knowledge of mattress construction methods, materials (innerspring, memory foam, latex, gels), and quilting processes.
- Experience with ERP/MRP systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle) for production planning and inventory management.
