ROLE DESCRIPTION
- The Construction Manager for the Tailings Storage Facility (TSF) and Bulk Earthworks will oversee and coordinate day-to-day construction activities for the TSF and bulk earthworks on a greenfield gold mining project.
- Key responsibilities include supporting the completion of detailed design, coordinating with the Engineer of Record, independent review boards, and regulators, preparing constructability plans with selected contractors, assisting in the development of project budgets and construction schedules, and managing on-site execution to ensure safety, quality, schedule, and cost requirements are met.
KEY RESULT ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Project Planning & Coordination
- Support planning, organizing, and scheduling construction works for TSF and bulk earthworks.
- Coordinate manpower, equipment, and material requirements with contractors.
- Assist in preparing construction execution plans and work breakdowns.
- Budget & Cost Monitoring
- Assist in preparing project budgets and cost estimates.
- Track expenditures and report cost performance regularly.
- Support cost forecasting and identify potential overruns early.
- Site Supervision & Leadership
- Supervise daily earthworks activities and guide supervisors and contractor teams.
- Ensure construction follows engineering drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Provide direction and resolve operational issues at site.
- Technical Support
- Support earthworks, material placement, drainage, and water management activities.
- Work closely with the Engineer of Record (EoR) to ensure construction aligns with detailed design.
- Assist with technical queries and documentation.
- Safety & Compliance
- Promote safe work practices across all site activities.
- Ensure compliance with national regulations and relevant TSF standards (e.g., GISTM, ICOLD, CDA).
- Conduct routine inspections and ensure corrective actions are implemented.
- Quality Assurance / Quality Control
- Implement QA/QC procedures for earthworks and concealed works.
- Monitor material specifications, compaction tests, and field inspection records.
- Ensure proper documentation and reporting of quality results.
- Monitoring & Reporting
- Support geotechnical monitoring programs.
- Report daily and weekly construction progress.
- Identify potential risks or delays and recommend corrective actions.
- Risk Awareness
- Monitor construction risks related to slopes, materials, water management, and weather.
- Support implementation of mitigation measures.
- Assist in maintaining emergency response plans.
- Stakeholder Coordination
- Liaise with internal departments, contractors, vendors, consultants, and regulators.
- Ensure clear communication and collaboration across all project stakeholders.
- Support site visits and technical meetings.
CAPABILITY PROFILE
- Formal Education: Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, or related field preferred.
- Work Experience: 14-20 years experience in construction management or earthworks; mining or TSF experience preferred.

- Strong understanding of civil works, earthmoving equipment, and construction processes.
- Able to read engineering drawings and interpret specifications.
- Good problem-solving ability and adaptability to remote environments.
- Experience with multicultural teams is an advantage.
