Job description
Overview

We are seeking a motivated clinical scientist to join the MR & US Physics groups within the Medical Physics & Clinical Engineering department at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust, for a fixed term period of 12 months. This is a new opportunity for an ambitious individual with experience of MR & US physics within healthcare, to contribute to the development and improvement of a wide range of advanced MR techniques supporting a comprehensive clinical service. With the expansion of MR & US services regionally through the current Community Diagnostic Centres programme, we expect a permanent position to become available during this fixed-term duration.

Responsibilities
  • Provide specialist scientific support for complex MR safety issues, MR & US quality assurance programmes, assessment of image artefacts, optimisation of image quality and protocols, and related image analysis.
  • Work in multi-disciplinary teams; advise on equipment management and maintain related documentation.
  • Develop advanced knowledge in a speciality of MRI, and maintain broad knowledge of current US systems and techniques.
  • Initiate and undertake research and development in imaging physics, including self-initiated projects, departmental collaboration, and external partnerships; co-supervise University student projects where applicable.
  • Support collaboration with the University of Nottingham MR groups; participate in joint activities as appropriate.
  • Split duties: 80% MRI and 20% Ultrasound.
Qualifications
  • HCPC registered clinical scientist, or eligible to apply (e.g., completing the STP with a specialism in imaging with non-ionising radiation).
  • We would support future HSST application if required.
Additional Information

We particularly welcome applications from people who identify as Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic, or Disabled, as we are striving to be better represented at NUH. The post holder would be encouraged to participate in collaboration with the University and may be eligible to apply for an associate/honorary faculty appointment at the University, subject to experience.

We are a large employer with a strong commitment to diversity and development: with over 19,000 staff, we support the health and wellbeing of our local population and play a leading role in research, education and innovation. The University of Nottingham has a large MR research community and a range of MR equipment; strong collaborative links exist between the hospital and university MR groups, and the post holder would be encouraged to participate in this collaboration.
