This opportunity is for greater than 1 WTE and would welcome part and full‑time applicants for this position. An exciting role for a Dermatology Nurse to join our friendly and driven Paediatric Dermatology Clinical Nurse Specialist Team.

We are looking for a dynamic and committed nurse with a strong background in dermatology (or a willingness to learn), who is flexible, ambitious, proactive and has excellent communication skills.

The role involves running various paediatric dermatology clinics throughout the week, providing care for severe eczema, acne, psoriasis and other inflammatory skin conditions, and supporting patients on systemic treatments and biologics.

Band 6, Permanent contract – Full‑time, Part‑time options available.

Salary: £38,682 to £46,580 a year pro‑rata per annum.

Location: University Hospital Of North Durham, North Road, Durham, DH1 5TW.

• Undertakes specialist assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of clinical care for a paediatric dermatology caseload using validated tools such as CDLQI, IDQOL, EASI, PHQ‑9 and GAD‑7.
• Provides nurse‑led clinics for children and young people with eczema, acne, psoriasis and other dermatological conditions, bridging gaps between primary, secondary and community services.
• Accepts referrals in the community for new patients, devises treatment plans, and plans future reviews or discharge as appropriate.
• Reviews follow‑up patients in the secondary care setting, adjusting treatment plans and arranging further reviews.
• Prescribes and monitors medication as an independent nurse prescriber.
• Applies child protection procedures locally and nationally, liaises with the multidisciplinary team, prioritising the child’s needs.
• Manages workload within nurse‑led paediatric clinics and develops sustainable service models, including writing protocols and guidelines.
• Provides specialist advice to patients, carers and the wider medical team and maintains comprehensive records as an autonomous practitioner.
• Assesses and manages risk, accepting responsibility for decisions and actions taken.

• Ability to work flexibly when service needs require.
• Ability to travel independently across sites to fulfil post requirements.

• Communicates complex, sensitive, confidential information with empathy, persuasion and reassurance.
• Understanding of safeguarding children legislation and policies, and ability to apply these to practice.
• Demonstrates skills for assessing and interpreting complex needs of patients and clients.
• Plans provision of care for patients and clients, including clinics, health education and promotion.
• Provides specialist advice and develops and implements specialist programmes of care.
• Imparts unwelcome news, follows policies, and makes comments on proposals for change.
• Implements policies and proposes changes to working practices, supervises work of others, and provides training.
• Works within codes of practice and professional guidelines, leading specialist areas or teams.
• Occasional participation in research and development activities.
• Performs physical tasks such as immunisations, restraint of patients, intravenous injections, syringe pumps, catheter insertion and sutures removal with dexterity.

• Professional knowledge through a degree or equivalent level of demonstrable professional knowledge/experience in paediatrics.
• Supplemented by diploma‑level specialist training, experience, or short courses in paediatrics.
• Desirable: paediatric clinical skills qualification, non‑medical prescribing, dermatology and/or allergy experience.

• Experience working as a registered nurse, preferably in paediatric dermatology.

• Active, 1st‑level NMC registration (RN – Child).
