Job summary
A leading waste management company is seeking a Technical Plant Engineer to provide mechanical expertise for Energy from Waste facilities. The role involves delivering technical support during complex breakdowns, enhancing processes, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. Candidates should have a relevant engineering degree, project management experience, and ideally hold or be pursuing Chartered Engineer status. The position requires frequent travel and overnight stays, offering a chance to contribute to sustainability initiatives.
Qualifications
- Proven experience in a process, power generation, or heavy engineering industry.
- Experience dealing with environmental legislation and management systems.
- Skilled in supervising industrial boiler building/repairs.
- Relevant degree or higher qualification in Engineering or a Management discipline.
- Demonstrated project management experience.
- Experience overseeing complex lifting operations.
- Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
Responsibilities
- Act as the go-to mechanical expert for Energy from Waste facilities.
- Provide technical support on breakdowns and process optimisation.
- Assist with breakdown recovery and deliver improvement projects.
- Conduct detailed process analysis to drive changes.
- Ensure compliance with legislation and best practices.
As a Technical Plant Engineer within the SUEZ R&R UK Technical Team, you will be the go‑to mechanical expert for our Energy from Waste (EfW) facilities, providing specialised technical support on complex breakdowns, process optimisation, and continuous improvement initiatives. The more efficiently our Energy Recovery sites operate, the greater the benefits for the environment and our business. You will deliver engineering expertise in operations, maintenance, and improvement projects, supporting Plant Managers, Operations Managers, and on‑site technical teams. This includes assisting with breakdown recovery, delivering optimisation and continuous improvement projects, conducting detailed process analysis to drive changes, and ensuring compliance with legislation, industry standards, best practice, and company Asset Management Standards.
Chartered Engineer status is desired, or we welcome candidates actively working towards it.
This role will require frequent travel with some overnight stays.
- Proven experience in a process, power generation, or heavy engineering industry, ideally within Energy from Waste, power stations, or similar sectors
- Experience dealing with environmental legislation and management systems
- Skilled in supervising industrial boiler building/repairs, welding and rectification of pressure parts
- Relevant degree or higher qualification in Engineering or a Management discipline
- Demonstrated project management experience
- Experience overseeing complex lifting operations
- Chartered Engineer (or working towards chartership) with the confidence and knowledge to uphold safety and best practice priorities
