Job Title

Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) – 6‑month Fixed Term Contract

Overview

Durham and Darlington Talking Therapies Service is recruiting 3 qualified PWPs to deliver low‑intensity interventions for mild to moderate anxiety and depression using face‑to‑face, telephone, video and computerised packages.

Worked within one of our Locality teams (location to be decided at offer), reporting to a qualified and trainee CBT/EMDR/IPT therapist, CfD trained counsellor and other PWPs.

Staff receive clinical supervision (weekly), monthly clinical skills supervision and monthly management supervision, and are encouraged to pursue CPD and further training such as LTC and PWP supervision training.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct one‑to‑one Guided Self‑Help Sessions, face‑to‑face and remotely.
  • Conduct reviews using the computerised CBT Package (SilverCloud).
  • Provide support to online psycho‑educational classes.
  • Conduct Single Point of Access assessment appointments.
  • Facilitate referrals to other health‑care providers in both physical and mental health settings.
  • Engage in clinical and managerial supervision.
  • Accept referrals via agreed protocols and develop programmes of care packages.
  • Provide screening and assessment at point of contact via telephone and face‑to‑face.
  • Assess and support people with a common mental‑health problem in the self‑management of their recovery.
  • Undertake person‑centred interviews that identify areas of change and assess risk to self and others.
  • Make decisions on suitability of referrals, organize assessment, signpost to appropriate services and facilitate referral to specialist services where required.
  • Provide evidence‑based information and support for high‑volume, low‑intensity psychological treatments (courses, guided self‑help, computerised CBT, pharmacology).
  • Educate and involve family members and others in treatment as necessary.
  • Adhere to an agreed activity contract concerning the number of client contacts and clinical sessions per week.
  • Work with the team to ensure appropriate step‑up and step‑down arrangements maintain a stepped‑care approach.
  • Follow Trust and local policies and procedures related to patient safety, risk management and safeguarding.
  • Carry out administrative tasks, data collection, and record‑keeping in line with Trust policies.
  • Use Trust‑approved electronic systems (e.g., Microsoft Office, ESR, Datix, IIC).
  • Liaise with administrative staff for effective communication regarding client appointments and room bookings.
  • Contribute to accurate use of clustering tools, performance measures, clinical reporting, monitoring and improvement activities.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and adhere to the professional code of conduct.
  • Participate in continuing professional development (CPD) annually and complete compulsory training.
  • Help maintain accreditation and engage in training and development of trainees.
  • Communicate safely, respectfully and compassionately with patients and the public.
  • Resolve informal complaints effectively and inform the team manager.
  • Work with interpreters when necessary and communicate accurate clinical information to other professionals.
  • Participate in‑development working parties and local projects to develop low‑intensity services.
  • Contribute to the IAPT service improvement programme and to the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of new or revised policies.
  • Keep up to date with developments in low‑intensity interventions and Step 2 IAPT treatment spheres.
  • Participate in research projects where required.
  • Maintain accurate, relevant, legible and timely clinical records and uphold data quality standards.
  • Attend and contribute to management, clinical and professional supervision sessions and annual appraisal reviews.
  • Monitor and support own workload to meet prescribed time‑frames.
  • Maintain registration with the appropriate professional body and comply with relevant codes of conduct.
Qualifications & Experience
  • Qualified Psychological Wellbeing Practitioner (PWP) with BACP/BPS Accreditation.
  • Experience delivering low‑intensity interventions for mild to moderate anxiety and depression.
  • Proficiency in using computerised packages such as SilverCloud.
  • Understanding of IAPT service delivery standards and the National IAPT programme.
  • Strong clinical, organisational and communication skills.
Working Conditions
  • Fixed‑term contract (6 months) with potential for extension or conversion to permanent role.
  • Flexible hours may be required to meet service needs.
  • Work locations may vary across Durham, Darlington and surrounding sites.
