Blind Veterans UK – Customer Care Assistant

Home-Based (in the UK)

The Organisation

We’re Blind Veterans UK, a charity that helps vision-impaired ex-service people from every generation rebuild their lives regardless of how or when they lost their sight. Founded in 1915, by Sir Arthur Pearson, to help the many veterans losing their sight after the First World War, we have supported those blinded in subsequent wars and military engagements, including the Second World War, and more recently, the conflicts in the Falklands, Iraq and Afghanistan.

We are currently seeking a Customer Care Assistant to join us on a permanent, full-time basis.

The Benefits

– Salary of £24,628.01 per annum
– Generous annual leave with the option to buy additional days
– Pension scheme with generous employer contributions
– Healthcare cash plan
– Access to legal services and mental health support
– Employee assistance programme
– Paid professional subscriptions and discounts
– Home working allowance
– Professional and personal development

This is the ideal opportunity for a talented customer care professional with strong admin experience and an excellent grasp of data protection to join an organisation that makes a difference.

We understand that our success relies on the wellbeing and development of our team, so we have ensured that our staff are challenged, rewarded and have the chance to grow throughout their tenure.

Alongside an impressive array of benefits, you will discover a fulfilling role where you will positively impact people’s lives straight away.

So, if you could see yourself providing veterans with superb, life-affirming advice, we would love to hear from you.

The Role

As a Customer Care Assistant, you will provide support to individuals contacting our organisation for advice, help with applications to join us and process donations.

Providing excellent customer service, you will act as the first point of contact, fielding phone calls, emails, letters and social media queries.

You will seek to inspire and motivate individuals, referring them for support or helping them to support our work through fundraising.

Additionally, you will:

– Ensure that all supporters are thanked, enquires responded to and applications processed
– Record, amend and update Gift Aid information
– Input all donations into the fundraising database
– Maintain and create personal and financial data, ensuring its security and confidentiality
– Co-ordinate admissions and reviews for all applicants for membership
– Liaise with ophthalmic secretaries to ensure all applicants meet Blind Veteran UK eligibility

About You

To be considered as Customer Care Assistant, you will need:

– Experience in handling customer queries and complaints
– Experience with managing administrative systems ensuring that service needs are met effectively
– Working knowledge of GDPR, PCI compliance, Direct Debit guarantee, Fundraising standards/codes, Voluntary Sector regulations and HMRC regulations
– A meticulous approach to transaction recording and audit trail
– To be skilled in using Microsoft Excel

Working knowledge of the Armed Forces and visual impairment would be beneficial to your application. Knowledge of fundraising and customer care techniques would also be advantageous.

The closing date for this vacancy is 11 July 2025.

Other organisations may call this role Customer Support Advisor, Client Services Assistant, Customer Service Administrator, Supporter Care Advisor, or Customer Services Executive.
