Job description
About the Opportunity

We are supporting a major UK infrastructure programme in the appointment of a Marine Operations Delivery Lead to play a critical role on one of the UK's largest and most complex construction projects. The role sits within a highly experienced technical services organisation employing over 8,000 professionals across the UK. The business is known for delivering complex, regulated projects and for investing heavily in its people through career development, professional training, and a strong culture of inclusion and wellbeing. The project itself is the first new nuclear power station built in the UK in over 20 years. Once operational, it will generate 3.26GW of low‑carbon electricity, supplying power to approximately 6 million homes while delivering long‑term economic and employment benefits nationwide.

Role Overview

The Marine Operations Delivery Lead is responsible for the delivery of a critical marine support service to a large, live construction site workforce of approximately 7,500 personnel. You will lead the development, review, and implementation of marine operational policies and procedures, support procurement activities through technical input and specifications, and act as the primary interface between the project and its marine service partners. This is a senior, hands‑on delivery role requiring strong leadership, technical expertise in marine and port operations, and the ability to operate effectively in a highly regulated environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage the day‑to‑day delivery of a critical marine site support service
  • Provide specialist technical oversight for the receipt, transport, storage, and load‑out of marine Abnormal Indivisible Loads (AILs)
  • Ensure full compliance with all statutory, regulatory, and site‑specific controls
  • Act as client interface for service partners responsible for project cargo valued in excess of £1bn
  • Build strong, effective working relationships with contract partners, promoting a collaborative “one team” approach
  • Ensure contract partner teams are fully competent, escalating capability gaps promptly where required
  • Develop and implement marine shared service delivery plans aligned to project schedules
  • Proactively identify and resolve issues to prevent escalation or impact to programme delivery
Education, Experience & Skills
  • Degree‑qualified in a relevant discipline (or equivalent experience)
  • Significant specialist experience in marine port operations with a strong logistics background
  • Proven experience handling waterborne Abnormal Indivisible Loads
  • Specialist knowledge of heavy haulage transport and freight forwarding
  • Experience working on large, complex, multi‑disciplinary construction or infrastructure projects
  • Strong commercial awareness, including experience managing and developing budgets

We welcome applications from every walk of life and are committed to diversity within the industries we support, as a certified Inclusive Recruiter and Armed Forces friendly employer.
