LOCATIONS: Bristol or Manchester
HOURS: Full-time
WORKING PATTERN: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week, or 40% of our time, at one of our office sites

A great opportunity has arisen for a Lead Data Engineer to join our engineering team and build data products in the Cloud that impact 26 million customers.

Working in the Enterprise Data Provisioning Platform, you can help shape the Group's ambition by enabling the bank to gain value from data by providing safe and efficient Group wide data capabilities and services. With several lab teams collaborating on various features, data is key to our strategy and at the centre of our investment programme.

Lloyds Banking Group is encouraging a common approach to the development of data to deliver greater reusability and ensure that our data can grow with the organisation. We want our data to be trusted, discoverable and understood.

Why Lloyds Banking Group

Like the modern Britain we serve, we're evolving. Investing billions in our people, data and tech to transform the way we meet the ever-changing needs of our 26 million customers. We're embracing collaborative, agile ways of working, to help us deliver the best outcomes for our colleagues, customers and businesses. We're growing with purpose. Join us on our journey and you will too!

About this opportunity

Data is one of our key assets. In a world of Big Data, Data Engineers are fundamental to unlocking safe, timely, scalable, and controlled access to it at enterprise scale. This is an opportunity to be a part of our journey to transform how the UK's largest bank handles its data at scale.

You’ll be responsible for producing / curating (designing, developing, moving, transforming, testing, and maintaining) Data Products. This enables consumers to ingest, transform, store, and analyse our data to gain insight and drive value for our customers, regulators, shareholders and colleagues.

You’ll be expected to draw on both your Data and Engineering expertise to build Data Products using modern technologies. A strong background in Data as well as Technology is a consistent characteristic of great practitioners who make an impact in this role.

Day to day, you will :
  • Design, develop, and maintain complex Data Products while applying DevOps practices
  • Lead implementation reviews and all aspects of data product delivery
  • Evaluate and recommend tools, technologies, and processes
  • Identify and implement best practices for data engineering
  • Provide guidance and mentorship to engineers
  • Have a strong understanding of data security principles and secure architectural practices
  • Provide knowledge of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines
  • Ensure timely delivery by managing tasks and priorities effectively
  • Communicate effectively with team and stakeholders
  • Accountable for custodianship governance activities on data assets
Why Lloyds Banking Group

We're on an exciting journey and there couldn't be a better time to join us. The investments we're making in our people, data, and technology are leading to innovative projects, fresh possibilities, and countless new ways for our people to work, learn, and thrive.

What you'll need:
  • Line Management experience of small teams
  • Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and its underlying data engineering services
  • Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including CI/CD pipelines and containerisation (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Data Engineering: Developing data validation methodology and data hub process models
  • Data Literacy: Communicating with data confidently and effectively
  • Data Modelling and Design
And any experience of these would be really useful:
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms such as Azure or AWS, and their underlying data engineering services
  • Experience with Machine Learning (ML) or Agentic AI
  • Experience with SQL and data warehouse technology such as BigQuery
  • Familiarity with data visualisation tools such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker
  • Relevant certifications in data engineering, Google Cloud Platforms (GCP), or related areas
About working for us

Our focus is to ensure we're inclusive every day, building an organisation that reflects modern society and celebrates diversity in all its forms. We want our people to feel that they belong and can be their best, regardless of background, identity or culture. We were one of the first major organisations to set goals on diversity in senior roles, create a menopause health package, and a dedicated Working with Cancer initiative. And it's why we especially welcome applications from under‑represented groups. We're disability confident. So if you'd like reasonable adjustments to be made to our recruitment processes, just let us know.

We also offer a wide-ranging benefits package, which includes:
  • A generous pension contribution of up to 15%
  • An annual performance-related bonus
  • Share schemes including free shares
  • Benefits you can adapt to your lifestyle, such as discounted shopping
  • 30 days’ holiday, with bank holidays on top

If you're excited by the thought of becoming part of our team, get in touch. We'd love to hear from you.
