Job Description

We’re seeking a Shift Leader to join our team at One Stop, a Tesco subsidiary. In this role, you will work in a dynamic retail environment where each day presents new challenges.

Your responsibilities include managing store activities by overseeing duty shifts, leading a team to maintain a clean and fully stocked store that surpasses customer expectations.

Since our customers are central to our operations, you will continually seek ways to enhance service through on-the-job coaching and feedback.

You will develop a strong understanding of your store's performance and be proactive in implementing practical improvements through a hands-on approach.

With your leadership, the store will remain a safe environment for both staff and shoppers.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate team efforts to provide a seamless shopping experience for the community.
  • Open and close the store, ensuring all decisions prioritize customers, colleagues, and safety.
  • Act as the primary contact for colleagues in the absence of the Store Manager for daily operational issues.
  • Support the Store Manager in organizing seasonal, community, and charity events to foster an inclusive atmosphere.
  • Maintain the store’s cleanliness, tidiness, and presentation standards.
  • Prioritize replenishment of key products valued by customers.
  • Ensure point of sale and shelf labels are accurate and reflect company standards.
  • Address overcharges immediately and prevent future occurrences.
  • Manage in-store queues proactively to enhance the customer experience.
  • Schedule and oversee colleagues’ shifts, including breaks, to match trade patterns.
  • Be knowledgeable about store operations and lead initiatives to improve performance.
  • Follow health and safety protocols and ensure colleagues do the same.
  • Communicate effectively with the team, keeping them informed.
  • Identify operational efficiencies and discuss ideas with the Store Manager.
  • Always prioritize customer needs and resolve queries promptly and courteously.
  • Recognize and celebrate colleagues providing excellent service.
  • Identify obstacles to service delivery and help remove them.
  • Handle colleague queries in the Store Manager’s absence or escalate as needed.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels, covering short-term absences.
  • Act as a Keyholder, attending alarm call outs to ensure store security.
  • Monitor and act on internal communications promptly.
  • Coordinate efforts to meet customer and operational needs, reporting issues to the Store Manager.
  • Balance responsibilities across service and replenishment areas.
  • Support the Store Manager with managing staff absences, conducting return-to-work interviews, and reporting absences per policy.
  • Build strong relationships with Area Managers and People Partners to escalate issues, seek advice, and receive coaching.
  • If the store has a Post Office Local, your duties will include managing daily operations of the Post Office, which requires passing a financial and criminal background check. Failure to pass these checks will result in withdrawal of the job offer.
