Applications are invited for the post of Endocrine Surgery Senior Clinical Fellow. The successful candidate will work in the Breast & Endocrine Surgery Unit with the Endocrine Surgery team at Royal Liverpool Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital. The team offers the full range of thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery, including benign and malignant pathologies, open, minimally invasive and robotic techniques.

The post involves diagnosis and treatment of endocrine surgical conditions, providing pre‑ and post‑operative care, participating in audits, and collaborating closely with breast surgery, endocrine medicine, nuclear medicine, and the Clatterbridge Centre for Oncology.

• Attend regular operating lists, outpatient clinics, audit and academic meetings, and case conferences.
• Provide daily ward rounds together with other resident surgical staff.
• Support the pre‑operative nursing team with clinical decision‑making and specialist referrals.
• Participate in audit, audit data collation and presentation at departmental and regional meetings.
• Give clinical teaching to undergraduate medical students, nursing staff and provide mentorship to junior doctors.
• Attend on‑call duties as required; no out‑of‑hours on‑call is part of the core contract but ad‑hoc participation can be facilitated.

• Full GMC registration and a license to practice in the UK.
• Training in endocrine surgery (thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal) with demonstrated competence in laparoscopic and robotic techniques.
• Experience working within a multidisciplinary team including endocrine medicine, breast surgery and oncology services.
• Strong audit skills and experience in delivering research or clinical investigations.
• Demonstrated teaching and mentorship abilities.

The unit undertakes approximately 300 thyroid/parathyroid and 80 adrenalectomies each year. The post-holder will have opportunities to participate in clinical investigations, contribute to national and international meetings, and take part in audit and research projects.

Medical students are attached to the breast & endocrine surgery unit. Post‑holders are expected to give clinical teaching to undergraduates, support nursing training and mentorship programmes for specialist registrars and fellows.

• Attend operative lists, some of which may be scheduled on Saturdays, and evening clinic appointments (1700–2030).
• Take part in daily ward rounds with resident surgical staff.
• Support the pre‑operative nursing team remotely with clinical decision‑making and specialist referrals.
• There is no regular out‑of‑hour on‑call; however, ad‑hoc participation may be requested if required.

All leave should be applied for in accordance with the Trust’s Leave Policy, normally giving six weeks’ notice of any leave, other than in exceptional circumstances.

This post is covered by the Hospital Medical and Dental Staff (England and Wales) Terms and Conditions of Service. The post holder must be fully registered with the General Medical Council (GMC) and hold a licence to practice.
