Job description

Skanska, one of the world’s leading project development and construction groups, is an inclusive and responsible business that is helping to build a better society.

We are looking for a Design Director to join our Building team in Cambridgeshire. This role will work as part of the senior team on a major building project whilst leading the design delivery process, line managing the design team and supporting design from pre-construction through to construction and handover phases.

Please note that this role will be subject to Security Clearances, detailed more at the end of this advert.

What you'll do:
  • Lead and manage the design management function for the project and coordinate the design requirements of the Client’s team, the consultant design team, Skanska and the sub-contractors.
  • Ensure effective delivery of all design related packages, ensuring this is in line with the programme, Employers Requirements and Contract Design Management Plan.
  • Ensure Statutory Responsibilities (including building Control, Planning and Building Safety Act) are clearly set out, understood and managed.
  • Contribute to achieving the broader Operating Unit and UK business objectives and support the associated Design Management, Digital and Information Control functional strategies.
  • Work with the Project Leadership Team to deliver against project, design control and project governance requirements.
What you'll bring to the role:
  • Experienced senior leader, with proven track record leading teams.
  • Member of professional institution (RIBA, ICE, MCIOB) – desirable.
  • Experience of delivering construction projects (£50m-£200m+) in a relevant building type working through bid, PCSA and delivery stages, and successfully converting and delivering on quality, time and to budget.
  • Demonstratable experience of delivering MOD/DIO/USVF projects from a design perspective.
  • Knowledge and experience of managing design and working within a secure UK environment.
  • Experienced in use of digital technologies to deliver design (e.g. CDE, BIM, Cobie and design co-ordination software) and experience of delivering to the ISO19650 Information Management standard.
  • Ability and willingness to work on project delivery across a wide geography covering the Midlands and South of England.
Security Clearance

This role requires a minimum level of security clearance and may also require a higher level of National Security Vetting. You should be aware that certain levels of clearance or specific projects and/or sites have UK residency requirements; and any dual or multiple nationalities must be declared. Any persons who do not fulfil these residency requirements may be unable to obtain the required level of clearance and would not be eligible to undertake this role.
