Job description
Planning Apprentice

Application Deadline: 31 January 2026

Department: PM

Employment Type: Permanent - Full Time

Location: G&T London

Description

Summary:

As a Planning Apprentice at G&T, you will support the planning and delivery of construction projects across a range of sectors. Planners play a vital role in helping clients and Project Managers understand project timelines, logistics, and risk mitigation strategies. In this role, you’ll begin to develop the skills needed to contribute to programme development and project coordination, working closely with clients, contractors, and the wider supply chain.

Your apprenticeship:

This is an entry-level position for individuals starting their Planning career journey. You’ll be supported through structured learning and practical experience. You will undertake the Level 4 Town Planning Assistant Apprenticeship, which typically spans two years. As part of this programme, you will be granted student membership with the RTPI. Upon successful completion, you may be eligible to apply for Associate membership of the RTPI. The apprenticeship also provides a pathway to further progression, including the Chartered Town Planner Degree Apprenticeship or other relevant postgraduate programmes, depending on your career aspirations and academic background.

Role Overview:

You will gain hands‑on experience in pre‑construction and construction sequencing, logistics planning, and programme evaluation. Your exposure will span the full project lifecycle—from concept design through to completion—across sectors such as commercial, residential, infrastructure, and lifestyle/culture.

Working within a collaborative team, you will assist your line manager with various aspects of daily work. You’ll be expected to work with a degree of autonomy while knowing when to seek guidance to ensure the best outcomes. This role will help you build a solid knowledge base of your responsibilities, the firm, and the wider industry—and how they all fit together.

You will also be enrolled in the G&T Apprenticeship Programme, which supports the integration of theoretical learning with practical experience. Working within a collaborative team, you will be expected to take initiative, ask questions, and contribute meaningfully to project planning and delivery.

General Responsibilities
  • Assisting in the preparation of strategic project programmes
  • Maintaining and updating project documentation
  • Attending site and design team meetings
  • Supporting Project Managers in implementing project goals
  • Preparing progress dashboards and reports for client and internal use
  • Collecting and analysing data to support decision‑making
  • Engaging with the supply chain to maintain current market knowledge
  • Communicating with clients to build and maintain strong relationships
  • Assisting in the development of action plans for time, resource, and process management
  • Supporting project execution and monitoring progress
  • Liaising with project leads to maintain schedules and project efficiency
  • Reviewing project implementation and gathering progress data
  • Coordinating post‑completion activities with project teams
Required Qualifications & Skills
  • A Level BBB (or equivalent) /128 UCAS tariff points (or an equivalents level of attainment through recognised qualifications)
  • Must hold 5 GCSE’s A-C including Maths and English or equivalent (reformed GCSE grade 4 or above)
  • Good working knowledge of current IT systems
  • Understand the importance of client care & relationships
  • Trustworthy and reliable
  • Ability to prioritise work efficiently
  • Ability to work to deadlines
  • Ability to work as part of a team and on own initiative
  • Proactive and flexible approach to different situations
  • Dedication and commitment
  • Desire to learn
  • Genuine interest in construction and property

Please note the following when applying for this role:

We are unable to support/sponsor individuals who require a work permit to work in the UK for our early talent roles.

We recruit on a rolling basis and reserve the right to close applications for this role if all positions have been filled ahead of the date advertised.

Due to the large number of duplicate applications received for early talent roles at G&T, we are only able to screen one application per candidate each academic year. If more than one application is submitted by the same person we will only be able to respond to the first one received.
