Gas Turbine Stress Engineer
£50,000 to £70,000 pa depending on experience
Glasgow, Bristol, Burton on Trent, Gloucester, Leatherhead, Manchester, Plymouth (flexible hybrid working, with time split between the office and working from home)
We are looking to recruit an engineer experienced in assessing the structural integrity of gas turbines to support growing demand for our services from clients in the aerospace and power industries. Primarily using Finite Element Analysis (FEA) methods, you will conduct strength, fatigue (low cycle and high cycle fatigue), creep and defect tolerance assessments of safety-critical parts to help our clients develop new designs, solve operational problems, and justify the life extension of existing assets. You will write bespoke software tools to assess components more quickly or in more detail to reduce conservatism.
You will also have the opportunity to deliver and lead projects across the entire Frazer-Nash portfolio, supporting customers in the defence, energy, and transport sectors. Our projects are diverse, ranging from a few weeks to many years, and you will typically be involved in multiple projects simultaneously. You will communicate with clients to understand their requirements and develop approaches to deliver desired outcomes and insights.
Although primarily a technical role, you will join a consultancy where collaboration across the business and with clients is expected. Good interpersonal skills, structured decision-making, problem-solving, initiative, and ownership are important.
Reporting to your Group Leader, you will be responsible for your work but will receive support from experienced engineers when needed. You will also mentor junior engineers and contribute to service development and strategy. There are many opportunities for growth in areas of engineering interest.
Experience in a technical consultancy, business development, client relationship building, or project management is advantageous but not essential.
Due to the nature of the work, candidates will undergo pre-employment screening and must meet UK National Security Vetting criteria.
