PROPOSED SALARY RANGE: £40,000 - £50,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE

We’re looking for a creative and strategically minded YouTube Content Lead to join our On Demand Music team within BBC Music. This is an exciting opportunity to work with artists, labels and our major events and music tv commissions to craft engaging content and develop strategies that amplify BBC Music’s brands and campaigns on the world’s biggest video platform.

The On Demand Music team sits at the heart of BBC Music, shaping how the BBC adapts to modern audience behaviour, across platforms. Working closely with our radio networks and music TV teams, we create compelling formats that build digital habits and attract new listeners to the BBC.

We lead on commissioning standout podcast brands for BBC Sounds, including Pop Top 10 with Scott and Rylan, Sidetracked with Annie and Nick, The Rise & Fall of series, and Radio 2 Eras, alongside popular playlist-led formats like The Sleeping Forecast and Pace Setter.

Beyond podcasts, we spearhead the digital strategy for major music events across BBC Sounds and iPlayer such as Radio 1’s Big Weekend, Glastonbury, Reading and Leeds, and Radio 2 in the Park bringing these iconic moments to life for audiences everywhere.

You’ll be part of the team that leads our Events, iPlayer and YouTube strategy, working closely with our Head of On Demand Music and Assistant Commissioner for Events to shape ambitious growth plans for our events coverage, our popular live music archive and a range of new artist fronted YouTube formats.

YOUR KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND IMPACT
  • Develop content strategies focused on YT product features, in particular live streaming, shows and clips.
  • Create and manage an impactful archive plan to exploit BBC Music’s content archive to grow clip watch time on YouTube and foster positive relationships with artist teams.
  • Work closely with Business Affairs and Artist teams to unlock new YouTube first content offers from the BBC.
  • Engage analytics data reporting and audience research to monitor content performance, stay on top of emerging trends and platform updates, providing actionable insights to improve performance and innovate our output.
  • Collaborate with brand owners, marketing and social media teams to develop high impact promotional content plans that sit cohesively within multiplatform brand campaign strategies.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders on editorial and platform strategies, to gain insights, ‘buy in’ and support from Radio Network stakeholders and YouTube Partners.
  • Monitor trends in the music landscape on YouTube globally and explore audience opportunities for new young UK audiences on the platform.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of engaging YouTube first music content and across our BBC Music channels, aligning with brand tone, editorial values and ensuring content is compliant for our audiences.
YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Is a digital creative who is deeply passionate about music audiences, content needs and behaviours with strong editorial knowledge and understanding of music content – particularly on YouTube.
  • Has a proven track record of developing high impact digital content campaigns.
  • Has experience working with the music industry, artists and record label teams.
  • Has an understanding of music rights frameworks, publishing and how these are used across YouTube.
  • Is able to interpret data and audience research and translate it into actionable, creative and strategic decisions.
  • Is highly organised, self-motivated and comfortable working to tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Is a strong and confident leader, decision maker, influencer and collaborator.
