Job description

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team and work 1 : 1 with a high‑needs child in Year 6. The successful candidate will provide tailored support to a non‑verbal autistic pupil, helping them to access learning and make progress within a nurturing and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1 : 1 support for a pupil with significant additional needs (non‑verbal / autistic).
  • Implement individual learning and communication strategies, including speech and language interventions.
  • Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and external professionals to support learning and development.
  • Support social, emotional, and behavioural needs to promote inclusion and independence.
  • Assist with personal care and any occupational therapy programmes as required.
Essential Skills and Experience
  • Proven experience working with children with SEN in a school, nursery or care setting
  • Understanding of Autism strategies, sensory needs, PECs, Makaton, or visual timetables (desirable)
  • Strong communication and relationship‑building skills
  • A calm, patient and resilient approach to challenging situations
  • Good literacy and numeracy skills
  • Valid Enhanced DBS on the Update Service (or willingness to obtain one)
  • Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2 / 3 , Team Teach, or equivalent is a bonus
