Job description
About the Company

We are a global company with numerous overseas sites and a long-established world leader in the design, manufacture and testing of energy absorption products used in safety critical applications, renowned for high integrity and craftmanship of a variety of products and manufacturing methods.

The certified welding processes at the UK site comprise of TIG and MAG deposited by manual and fully mechanised methods on various small to medium sized fabrications produced to stringent quality and operational systems control requirements.

The Opportunity

We are looking to employ an experienced and multi skilled welding inspector to join the weld coordination team to support our commitment to advance the business.

The position, involving process inspections and reporting, will also support the drive to make continual and comprehensive improvements at all stages of planning, execution and analysis of the welding operations and the underpinning quality management systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Carry out weld process monitoring & VT inspections of welding and fabrications to EN / ISO standards, actively interpret the inspection results to assess compliance to specifications and overall fabrication quality.
  • Maintain accurate inspection and operations records, prepare detailed reports and related tracking registers.
  • Ensure all welding and related activities comply with the relevant industry standards, customer specifications, and company quality procedures.
  • Assist in planning and implementation of new product introduction and the continual improvement of existing systems and documentation.
  • Work closely with the engineering, operations, quality and welding teams to analyse issues, help plan remedial actions and implement permanent corrective resolutions with generation of supporting documentation.
  • Ensure advance production readiness planning is actively maintained and production records are kept up to date.
  • Ensure Health & Safety systems and related environmental systems are adhered to and monitored.
  • Support the creation of process documentation and specifications with attention to detail and ability to track and report on progress at regular intervals.
Skills & Experience Required
  • Certified welding inspector to CSWIP 3.0 / 3.1 or PCN L1, L2.
  • Certification at Welding Specialist or Technologist level is beneficial.
  • Proven experience performing weld inspections and supervision of weld operations within a fabrication or welding environment and strong knowledge of TIG & MAG processes.
  • Familiarity with ISO 3834-2, EN 1090 & EN 15085 quality management systems and active in their implementation is advantageous.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to interpret engineering drawings and related technical specifications and application standards.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills based on established quality methodologies.
  • Confident working independently and collaboratively within a team with ability to provide guidance and support to individuals.
  • Good level of competence in the use of office computer programs and document generation.
  • Familiarity with the main NDT methods.
  • Knowledge of health and safety in the workplace and associated regulations.
  • Willingness and ability to learn and develop knowledge new skills rapidly.
