Overview

Sort washing into relevant groups, where applicable, and process it through the washer, drier and iron. Keep clean and dirty linen separate within the laundry area.

The following priorities apply:

Bedding

Towels

Residents' personal laundry

Serviettes

Tea Towels

Return the Care Home's washing to the linen cupboard, dining room and the kitchen.

Perform minor repairs to the Service users' clothing.

Any clothes that are not marked should be named and placed in the appropriate boxes after they have been laundered.

Ensure the laundry room is clean and tidy. On a daily basis: wash down wasters, dryers and laundry bags; clean lint trays/vents; mop floors.

Use appropriate protective clothing when dealing with soiled/infected linen.

Ensure statutory Health & Safety standards in the laundry area.

Report immediately to the Home Manager, or Person in Charge, any illness of an infectious nature or accident incurred by a Client, colleague, self or another.

Responsibilities

  3. Follow priority items: Bedding, Towels, Residents' personal laundry, Serviettes, Tea Towels.
  4. Return washed items to the linen cupboard, dining room and kitchen.
  5. Perform minor repairs to Service users' clothing as needed.
  6. Name and place in appropriate boxes any unmarked clothes after laundering.
  7. Maintain a clean and tidy laundry room; daily tasks include washing down washers, dryers and laundry bags, cleaning lint trays/vents, and mopping floors.
  8. Wear appropriate protective clothing when handling soiled or infected linen.
  9. Adhere to statutory Health & Safety standards in the laundry area.
  10. Report illnesses of an infectious nature or accidents involving Clients, colleagues, yourself or others to the Home Manager or Person in Charge.
