Location

We have opportunities for Waste Resolution Jetting Technicians in the York area to join our Customer Field Services department at Yorkshire Water and be part of helping Yorkshire Water to provide the best service to our customers. Ideally you will live close to our wastewater site in York? Could this be you?

Work type

This is a permanent opportunity, working 40 hours per week, rotational work patterns on a 4 on 4 off basis, which may include late, early and weekend work patterns. You will need a full valid driving licence in addition to a LGV category C and ideally a DCPC qualification (no more than 6 points).

Where you fit in!

As our Waste Resolution Jetting Technician, you will:

  • Work as part of a two‑person team within a geographical team to improve customer service and sewer system performance.
  • Be responsible for ensuring a first‑time fix solution for customers and the environment whilst ensuring quality follow‑on work is raised in accordance with our standards and specifications.
  • Deliver a first‑time fix / same‑day solution to customer and environmental problems and to deliver the asset plan for sewer maintenance to eliminate escapes. You will ensure Health & Safety working practices and procedures are always complied with.
  • Primarily respond to Internal Flooding and Restricted Toilet Use (RTU) customer problems to resolve the immediate cause and complete a thorough investigation to resolve the root cause and achieve a first‑time fix / same‑day solution, including using IT systems to collate information and relay accurate feedback including plans and photographs.
  • Safely, proactively and reactively maintain the sewers to promote and implement solutions which resolve and/or prevent a sewage escape (flooding and pollution) from occurring and to ensure no repeats take place.
  • Work closely with other Yorkshire Water teams and our contracted partners on site to resolve and manage operational issues on the sewer network.
What skills & qualifications you will need
  • Full valid driving licence plus LGV category C, ideally with DCPC driving licence and digitising card (no more than 6 points).
  • Operating a high‑pressured jetting and vacuumation vehicle and carrying out manual handling duties including heavy lifting of manhole covers and operating heavy equipment involving high pressure water jetting systems and sewer cameras.
  • A strong health & safety background, competency in IT systems, and ability to be proactive and take ownership of issues.
  • Previous experience in a customer service‑related role with face‑to‑face communication with customers.
  • Ability to think through problems and work with others to solve them, finding faults and diagnosing root causes.
  • Excellent communication skills, ability to capture, evidence and feedback information, influence outcomes and make decisions.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and comfort liaising with operational teams, customers and stakeholders.
  • Will work within confined spaces; must pass strict medical criteria including BMI, vision, blood pressure, hearing and Spirometry tests.
  • For drivers with Licence entitlement C1 or above, subject to basic standard eyesight assessment, initial driving assessment, and regular basic standard eyesight assessment.
  • Flexible attitude to work as a variety of rotas cover the working window.
  • Ideal: previous jet van operation experience or driving liquid loads, basic understanding of sewer network; full training provided (high pressure jetting training, confined space & NRASWA).
