Overview

This vacancy is for a Ward Manager to lead our 9-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit dedicated to patients recovering from limb loss, within Pine Cottage. The role involves leading a multidisciplinary team and working closely with physiotherapy, occupational therapy, discharge coordination, housekeepers and medical colleagues to support patient recovery and safe discharge.

Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a dedicated team, fostering a culture of compassion, inclusion, safety, and excellence.
  • Ensure delivery of high-quality, person-centred care to patients undergoing complex rehabilitation.
  • Motivate service changes and influence others to drive improvement.
  • Support and develop staff while managing day-to-day operations and ward-level concerns.
  • Drive innovation and continuous service improvement across the unit.
  • Demonstrate excellent inter-personal skills to lead and motivate the multidisciplinary team.
  • Manage a team, handle ward-level complaints, and oversee day-to-day operational issues.
  • Be responsible for day-to-day operational line management and ensure a 24/7 service.
  • Facilitate admission and discharge of patients to and from the unit.
  • Collaborate with health care professionals and statutory/non-statutory agencies to provide integrated care.
  • Provide senior leadership and cover service gaps as required.
  • Involve patients, families and carers in planning and prioritising rehabilitation and discharge goals.
  • Provide supervision, guidance and support to nursing staff and rehabilitation assistants for complex care needs.
  • Lead recruitment, inductions for new staff, work experience placements and learners.
  • Monitor and manage staff absence, annual leave and study leave in line with Trust policies; escalate significant trends.
  • Establish clear leadership within the clinical team to maintain a cohesive multidisciplinary team.
  • Manage the ward budget.
Qualifications and Experience
  • NMC registration.
  • Proven track record in organising and delivering high-standard patient care within a rehabilitation setting.
  • Experience leading a multidisciplinary team and implementing service improvements.
