VP of Test Engineering

Remote - Permanent - EU based (UK Ideally)

A remote, executive-level role responsible for end-to-end Quality Engineering for a large, established Fintech firm. This position holds full accountability for quality strategy, execution, and maturity, with a strong emphasis on capability-building rather than headcount growth.

The role is hands‑on and deeply technical , requiring the ability to operate at all levels. From board and executive discussions to detailed technical guidance with senior engineers.

Core Responsibilities
  • Own and evolve the organisation wide Quality Engineering strategy.
  • Lead quality across four pillars:
    • Manual & regression testing
    • Test automation
    • Performance engineering
  • Certification & Compliance Testing:
    • Establish and embed consistent quality standards across all engineering teams.
    • Mature existing quality practices into a scalable, future‑proof model.
    • Lead and develop a Quality Engineering organisation, directly managing senior leaders (managers of managers).
    • Make targeted, strategic hires to strengthen capability where needed.
    • Act as the senior technical authority on testing, testability, and quality systems.
    • Champion quality‑first practices throughout the SDLC.
    • Serve as the primary quality advocate with executives, product leaders, and engineering teams—balancing speed with quality.
Required Background
  • Proven experience leading large‑scale Quality Engineering functions.
  • Strong, hands‑on expertise in testing, automation, performance engineering, and quality systems.
  • Experience managing senior leaders while remaining technically credible.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
Nice to Have
  • Experience in regulated, high‑availability, or transactional environments.
  • Background in complex, platform‑based engineering organisations.
  • Exposure to certification or compliance‑driven testing.
