Job summary

What You Will Be Doing
  • Leading and Motivating Volunteers: Inspire and guide volunteers to help amplify IWM's impact.
  • Daily Coordination: Organise rotas, conduct briefings, assign duties, and ensure welfare checks.
  • Training and Support: Deliver elements of the volunteer training programme and ensure volunteers are inducted, prepared, and supported throughout their journey.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with teams across Visitor Experience, Learning & Engagement, Membership, Conservation, Digital, and Curatorial.
  • Volunteer Recruitment and Retention: Support campaigns and selection processes to build a committed and valued volunteer team.
  • Database Management: Use Better Impact software to manage rotas and report on volunteer activity.
  • Income Generation: Promote IWM's products and services, including membership, shops, cafes, and events.
  • Maintaining Standards: Ensure compliance with health and safety, uphold IWM values, and act as an ambassador for the museum.
  • This role requires flexibility, including weekend, evening, and public holiday work, and may involve travel across IWM sites.
Who We Are Looking For
  • Experience working with the public or in a customer-facing role, ideally in heritage or tourism.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with volunteers.
  • Minimum GCSEs (or equivalent) Grade A-C in Maths and English.
  • Strong verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to motivate and build rapport with diverse individuals.
  • Confident in presenting information to varied audiences.
  • Experience managing or leading volunteer programmes.
  • Familiarity with Better Impact or similar volunteer management software.
