Job description

This volunteer role will to support the research in decarbonising travel through E-bikes and E-vehicleswithin Devon Partnership Trust.

Main Duties of the Job

The Sustainability Analyst volunteer will support Devon Partnership NHS Trusts commitment to reducing carbon emissions by researching and evaluating sustainable travel solutions. Based at Prentice, Dawlish, the role focuses on exploring opportunities for e-bikes and electric vehicles to decarbonise staff travel and reduce grey fleet mileage. The volunteer will analyse data, review best practice across the NHS and wider public sector, and assess operational, financial, safety and environmental implications. Working closely with the Sustainability and Procurement teams, they will help shape proposals, identify viable implementation routes, and contribute to developing policies, procedures and recommendations that support a healthier, low carbon future for the Trust.

Job Responsibilities
  • DPTleasing or purchasing.
  • Individualcompanies renting space on sites.
  • Maintenanceof the e-bikes and chargers.
  • Storage(independent to DPT or how accommodate companies)
  • Policiesand standard operating procedures (SOPs) for both possibilities.
  • Firesafety and legal responsibilities.
  • Coststo rent/procure plus cost and emission savings (cost may be from mileage rates,parking, decrease in parking fines).
  • Researchon what other NHS sites are doing but could also consider other governmentorganisation such as university, councils and met office.
  • Couldattend meetings such as Exeter transport group (CUA).
  • E-bikesproposal got declined in 2024 based on health and safety and fire risks.
  • Wouldbe great opportunity to encourage in certain areas like Exeter/Torbay andBristol to reduce grey fleet mileage emissions. Also worth noting the healthbenefits to staff e.g. less stress, ease of parking, reduced parking costs.
  • Plan toelectrify fleet.
  • Reviewother organisations and how/what they have procured via approved routes takinginto consideration the mileage range required.
  • Analysecurrent data from vehicle being tested (electric ford transit).
  • Dataresearch is similar parameters to E-bike above.
  • Workwith procurement to understand opportunities.
  • Comparewith other organisations.
  • Lookat travel data to understand requirements.
  • Ideallywant to enable fleets to charge overnight (unless on call).
  • Locationof electric vehicle charging points (EVCPs) externally.
Person Specification
Experience
  • Basic knowledge / interest in Sustainability such as waste, energy, travel, behaviour change or/and biodiversity (not finite).
  • Commitment to the ethos and values of DPT.
  • Adaptability, flexibility and creativity.
  • Good IT skills, knowledge of Excel, Word and power point.
  • Good interpersonal skills and experience of working in a team.
  • Confidentiality is upmost and we ask volunteers to be part of the team and be discreet and reliable.
  • Ability to work under pressure and with competing deadlines.
  • Understanding of NHS procedures such as Health Technical Memorandums (HTMs).
  • Ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills.
Qualifications
  • Ideally the volunteer would have membership of Environmental Practitioners such as IEMA/CIWM
