Overview

Job Title: 3.5T Van Delivery Driver | Location: Tilbury | Pay Rate: £14.50 per hour, OT paid at £21.75 after 40 hrs | Shift Pattern: Monday to Friday | Working Hours: 8am until 5pm or 10am until 7pm. Routes are delivering into and around London.

Manpower are looking for a Van Delivery Driver to work for our client based in Tilbury. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a growing company, working in brand-new facilities with top-of-the-line equipment, while making a positive environmental impact.

Job Overview

As a Van Delivery Driver, you will be the "face of the business," delivering fresh cooking oil to the catering industry and collecting used oil to return to the Microsite. Relationship building with customers is key, as our client aims to ensure every order is fulfilled in a timely, efficient, and friendly manner. You'll also have the opportunity to assist in generating new business during your rounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Pre-trip inspection of the vehicle to ensure that it is in proper working order and complies with safety regulations.
  • Regular maintenance of the vehicle to ensure it remains in proper working order and reporting any mechanical issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Driving the vehicle in a safe and efficient manner, while adhering to traffic laws and complying with all safety regulations and procedures while operating the vehicle.
  • Safely loading and unloading of barrels and bins of clean/waste cooking oil and ensuring it is secured according to safety regulations.
  • Delivering fresh oil to the catering / restaurant trade and collecting used cooking oil weights from 20 litres up to 200 litres.
  • Making/taking payment for oil and the maintenance and accuracy of cash/pre-paid cards.
  • Communicating with dispatch and customers to provide updates on delivery times and any issues that arise during transport.
  • Accurate recording of information following oil delivery and/or collection, e.g. Waste Transfer Notes completion.
  • Reporting of missed or failed deliveries on a daily basis to Microsite Manager.
  • Build and maintain good relationships with customers and prospective customers, assisting with sales efforts when required.
Requirements
  • Driving Licence, Own Vehicle & Clean Record: A valid UK driving licence with no points or endorsements.
  • Van Driving Experience: Proven experience driving vans in the UK, with a solid understanding of road laws and regulations (6 months minimum).
  • Excellent Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with the Transport Office, customers, and other drivers.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a professional appearance and conduct at all times.
  • Customer Service Orientation: A friendly, positive attitude with a willingness to engage with customers to enhance their experience.
  • Sales Experience (Desirable): Experience in business-to-business sales and achieving sales targets as part of a driving role would be an advantage but is not essential.
  • Safety Awareness: Strong knowledge of vehicle safety and workplace health and safety regulations.
  • Problem-Solving Ability: Ability to handle unexpected situations and demonstrate problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to Detail: A keen eye for detail, particularly when handling documents.
  • Reliability & Flexibility: A strong work ethic, reliability, and flexibility with work hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays if needed.
