FJA are partnering with a Leading Company within the Utilities Sector, who are looking to recruit a
Utility Surveyor who lives within a commutable distance from Birmingham.
The
Utility Surveyor will be predominantly field based working on activities both individually and part of a wider teams on projects to locate, trace, and map underground utilities like gas pipes, water mains, electrical cables, and sewer lines. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety and efficiency of construction projects by preventing accidental damage to buried utilities.
The data capture of projects will require travel around the UK in a company fleet vehicle and the use of the latest surveying equipment.
Utility Surveyor Role & ResponsibilitiesLead and support the planning and execution of survey projects and manage timescales whilst adhering to the client’s scopeConduct research to gather information on existing utility maps and records for assigned projectsUtilise collected data to create detailed maps of the underground utilities using computer-aided design (CAD) software or similar programsPrepare reports summarising the findings of the surveySupport the Senior Surveyors and Survey ManagersFollow safe systems of work in a variety of external and internal site environmentsUndertake and deliver supervised and unsupervised works following risk assessments and safe systems of work to project timescalesLiaise and engage with members of the public, team members, and client stakeholdersEscalation of operational, Health and Safety, and commercial risksFollowing company procedures and policies, including commercial driving best practicesA desire to learn and develop new techniques, and procedures through the pursuit of formal and informal trainingEnsure and maintain Quality complianceUtility Surveyor Skills and ExpertiseQCF Level 3 in Utility Mapping and Surveying or have a relevant HNC/Diploma in Surveying or related discipline, however, candidates with suitable skills and/or proven experience will also be consideredMinimum of 2 year’s experience in delivering Underground Utility surveying services essentialUnderstanding of PAS128 StandardsCompetent in carrying out below-ground utility surveys and mapping surveys, to PAS128 standards in both collecting and post-processing of the site data under your supervisionCompetent user of surveying equipment such as Electromagnetic and Ground Penetrating RadarA competent user of AutoCAD and Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint are essential to enable you to post-process data and report compilation.Demonstrable a good communicator in written and verbal English.Ability to work within a team or independently within a project brief.A desire to learn on the job a can-do attitude, and the ability to resolve unexpected issues.Full UK driving Licence and be willing to take and pass regular drugs and alcohol screening.Good time management and flexibility in working hours.Right to work in the UK.NB This lead role involves a lot of field-based activities throughout the UK and therefore requires a level of fitness, (this could also include night work) and requires some working away from home, both as part of a team or on an individual basis.
