The successful applicant will be expected to work at or above the level of an ST3 specialist registrar (SpR) in Urology.

The appointee will participate in a 1 in 5 on-call rota for Urology, fully supported by a Urology Consultant of the Week. This includes non-resident night and weekend cover.

Responsibilities
  • Elective training outside of on-call commitments will include a mixture of day case and major surgery lists, supervised outpatient clinics, flexible cystoscopy, precision point prostate biopsy and urodynamics.
  • The successful applicant will be able to participate in the local weekly MDT and the Network MDT meetings with UHD. A post-MDT clinic is also set up and they can attend this too for additional learning opportunities as required.
  • The post will have appropriate secretarial support and shared office space, with admin time provided.

Environment and opportunities

At DCHFT, we pride ourselves on the care we provide for our patients, and on the culture we are creating for our staff. We work hard to create a fair, inclusive environment for our staff. Our Mission is to work in partnership to provide high quality, compassionate services and to nurture an environment where people can be at their best. Our vision is healthier lives, empowered citizens, thriving communities.

We are a Trust that celebrates diversity, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We welcome applications from people in all under-represented groups.

We understand that some applicants may choose to use artificial intelligence (AI) tools to assist in preparing their application materials. While this is not discouraged, we kindly remind candidates that all submissions must be truthful and accurately reflect your own experiences and suitability for this role. Personal integrity and authenticity are central to our recruitment process. We value honesty and appreciate applications that are genuine and representative of the individual behind them.

The post is suitable for candidates who ideally will already have some experience in urology and would like to build on their experience.

We have a heavy core urology workload including bipolar TURP and ureteroscopy. Areas of special interest available in the department include advanced BPH surgery (HoLEP, REZUM, UroLIFT), female and functional urology, PCNL, upper tract and pelvic oncology. The successful candidate will therefore have lots of opportunity to advance their surgical skills and develop their portfolio either as part of preparation for future ST3 application or for completion of competencies required for CESR.

There will also be additional opportunity to deliver teaching and education, with an onsite education centre, weekly grand round, monthly departmental education meeting and other teaching opportunities.

We have consultants interested in audits/research so there will be opportunities for audits, research and trial participation for interested candidates. In addition, we work close with University Hospitals Dorset (UHD) as part of the same Urology Area Network (UAN) and can link in with Bournemouth University for management and leadership courses for development if needed.
