Overview

The Anaesthetic Department at William Harvey Hospital is looking to recruit a dynamic and conscientious individual to join our team of dedicated clinicians for a year. William Harvey Hospital is a large district general hospital providing care for the diverse population across East Kent, with surgical services for regional head and neck cancer, colorectal cancer, and other specialties including gynae, ENT, trauma surgery, breast, paediatrics and ophthalmology. We offer 27 days' annual leave and active support for study, quality improvement and patient safety work as part of our 'We care' improvement journey, medical education and research.

Responsibilities

• Full on‑call rota participation for emergencies and resuscitations, with consultant support until 10 pm and distant supervision thereafter.
• Pre, peri and post‑operative management of surgical patients, acute pain reviews and safe transfer of critically ill patients.
• Training in various surgical specialties, complex airway cases and regional anaesthesia.
• Effective communication with medical and service departments within the Trust and other hospitals.
• Teaching junior doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, with support for additional educational roles and opportunities in the pre‑assessment service and multidisciplinary meetings.
• Provision of anaesthetic care at William Harvey Hospital, mainly under consultant supervision, with chances for independent work based on experience.
