Salary: Competitive

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Working hours: Average 44 hours, normally 7am-4.30pm, Mon-Fri, plus 1 in 3 Saturday mornings, 7am-11.30am

We're looking for a proactive and experienced Depot Supervisor to help maintain the safe and efficient running of Colnbrook Depot's waste collection services. This hands-on position includes supporting staff supervision, ensuring compliance with all applicable legislation especially the Company's Goods Vehicle Operating Licence and managing resources to consistently provide outstanding service to our customers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in supervising depot employees, fostering motivation, discipline, and high morale, while encouraging personal development.
  • Consistently implement Company Compliance, Health & Safety, and HR policies while actively fostering a strong culture of safety and security throughout the workforce.
  • Provide timely training and induction for new personnel and identify ongoing training needs.
  • Conduct probation reviews promptly, addressing concerns and applying corrective actions when necessary.
  • Monitor attendance regularly and hold consistent meetings and toolbox talks to encourage employee feedback and idea sharing.
  • Manage and record mobile workers' hours in full compliance with legal regulations.
  • Oversee accurate and timely reporting of accidents and injuries, ensuring follow up actions are taken.
  • Support Fleet and Workshop Managers in maintaining vehicles in a safe, roadworthy condition.
  • Ensure thorough debriefing for drivers and mates at the end of shifts.
  • Maintain depot readiness for unplanned inspections by regulatory authorities and senior management.
  • Undertake ad hoc projects as required.

Experience & Skills

  • Possession of a valid Transport Manager Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) is required.
  • At least 2 years' supervisory or managerial experience in the waste management industry, with proven effectiveness.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills with strong relationship-building and influencing abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and databases.
  • Strong numerical and cost-control skills with budget understanding and data analysis capabilities.
  • Ability to adapt and improve systems within a growing business, using sound judgment and decision-making.
  • Solid knowledge of legislation related to Health & Safety, EU Drivers' Hours, Goods Vehicle Operator Licensing, and Employment Law.
  • Practical, hands-on approach with a ‘can-do' attitude.
  • Good geographical knowledge of the depot's operational area.
  • Experience with FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) preferred
  • Full clean driving licence; LGV Class 2 (Category C) entitlement preferred.
