Trainee Surveyor (Contracts)

Location: Ealing or Staines (Hybrid working – regular site visits)

Salary: £31,490-£32,000

Contract type: Permanent – Full Time (35 hours per week, Monday to Friday)

We’re looking for a Trainee Surveyor (Contracts) to join our Asset Investment team. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced surveyors, gain practical on‑the‑job experience, and work towards becoming a competent Contracts Surveyor. You’ll be supported through training and development while helping to deliver planned investment programmes that ensure our residents live in safe, comfortable homes.

Key responsibilities

• Support Contracts Surveyors in the delivery of planned maintenance and capital investment programmes.
• Learn and develop an understanding of the Contracts Surveyor role within asset investment.
• Assist with monitoring project progress, delivery and spend to ensure works remain within scope and budget.
• Help track programme and project performance, escalating issues and risks to the Contracts Manager as required.
• Attend relevant meetings and produce accurate notes and minutes.
• Learn and apply surveying techniques, including supporting stock condition surveys.
• Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records within in‑house IT systems and project management tools.
• liaise with operational teams, residents, local authorities and third‑party providers to support effective project delivery.
• Assist with responding to customer queries and supporting service recovery where issues arise.
• Support compliance with health & safety requirements, building regulations and relevant housing legislation.
• Assist with budget monitoring, specification writing, tendering activity and invoice checking in line with policies.
• Undertake training and professional development, working towards qualifications required to progress to Contracts Surveyor level.

More About You

• GCSEs (A*–C) or equivalent in Maths and English.

• Experience working with a diverse range of customers.
• Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle.
• Experience in building management or housing management (desirable, not essential).
• Experience supporting budget monitoring or cost control activities (desirable, not essential).
