Job description
Overview

Trainee Respiratory Advanced Clinical Practitioner (ACP) Band 7. We are looking for a motivated Trainee ACP to join our Respiratory team and support the development of our Acute Respiratory Virtual Ward. Applicants must have at least one Level 7 module in Physical Assessment, Clinical Decision Making, or Non-Medical Prescribing. We also welcome applications from qualified Advanced Nurse Practitioners.

You will need substantial experience in your current profession (Nurse, Midwife or AHP) and an interest and background in respiratory care. A commitment to delivering safe, evidence-based, patient-focused care is essential. This role offers the opportunity to provide hospital-level care in patients’ own homes, working as part of a specialist workforce within a supportive multidisciplinary team.

Following a structured induction, this post will be primarily based at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough. The successful candidate will play a key role in the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with chronic respiratory conditions who present with an acute flare.

Responsibilities
  • Optimising ongoing respiratory disease management and, where appropriate, coordinating safe and supported discharges onto the virtual ward.
  • Identifying respiratory patients in the Emergency Department and other inpatient areas.
  • Leading virtual ward board rounds as the senior clinician, supporting decision-making, and guiding the team in escalating or referring care as needed.
  • Providing clinical support and education to colleagues within the Frimley Adult Integrated Respiratory (FAIR) Team.
  • Working closely with the wider respiratory team, including spending time in community settings and delivering domiciliary respiratory care (around four shifts per month).
  • Participating in service integration across sites, including King Edward VII Hospital Windsor and other acute hospitals, particularly during the training period.
  • Supporting development of a 7-day service in the future; during the initial training period, the post holder will work a 5-day rotation to gain comprehensive exposure across respiratory services.
Location and Hours

The post is based primarily at Wexham Park Hospital, Slough, with time in community settings and across partner sites as part of training and service integration.

  • A focus on work-life balance and flexible working patterns where possible.
